Hi all,

These are being offered to me by a local seller, no prices offered. I've spoken to the seller and can definitely get them. These are the only photos I have, but I could probably request more. I have my suspicions, but thought I'd post here. Opinions appreciated. Thanks!

Two inaccurate redials.

I would not buy.

I’m certainly not as expert as people who have already commented. However, it’s easy to see that the second watch is a clumsy redial. I wasn’t sure about the first one until I saw the irregular spacing between the letters on the word Omega. Good job asking before rather than after the sale, keep looking!

It's so tempting to want to follow up on anything half-decent you find on Craigslist ... it's like a little treasure hunt. These would not be worth the trouble, unfortunately.

I did lose out on something good once. I asked too many questions and the seller started to think he had something more special than it really was. Then he doubled his asking price and we couldn't make a deal. 🤦

I’ll hijack this with a story, I bought a watch for my dad many years ago that was a nice gold cap Seamaster Cal 501 on BoR bracelet. Quite patinated dial but ran well, advertised in the trading post which was a physical paper similar to craigslist in its market segment.

So I drive over there and I was a bout 22 at the time, its an old house in an old neighborhood, bunch of cars parked outside and a fence with some dogs, and 4 people in the front yard standing around, talking quietly, one holding a closed umbrella, one doing some gardening.

I ask one of them about the watch and he offers to guide me up the stairs into this old house, I get to the top and in the entryway there are a few more people sitting on the floor talking quietly. Then in the next room its a living room area, large couches and an assortment of odd chairs all filled by people, probably 15 or so sitting around watching a tiny old CRT television playing some religious sermon. So through into the next room there are a bunch of people with old computers and bundles of leaflets and flyers, brochures, all really low quality MS Publisher stuff stacked up in bundles and about 10 people working on various things.

Then the next room is the kitchen and a bunch of people are sitting around with bibles, more flyers having quiet conversations, and one offers me a drug rehabilitation flyer. Then into the next room which is another living room and a bunch of more tables and chairs are there with more people sitting around working on flyers, and this bloke comes over who is the leader and asks if I’m here to see the watch, so I say yes and he hands it to me. Then he starts talking about his group and how they’re preparing for the end times and all about his mission, and asks me to stay. I’m like yea I have to get home for dinner I’m afraid but let me take some flyers and I’ll give you a call, the watch was $180, I gave him 200 thanked him, and started leaving slowly unwinding back through this house that probably had 50-60 people in space intended for 4.

As I’m walking down the stairs hes coming after me wanting to further the conversation and offer me $20 change but I’m like an I’ve got to go, and the dude in the yard with the umbrella runs over to shield me from the rain on my way to the car, the others in the yard aren’t even paying attention to the fact that they’re getting wet. Boss guy follows me and umbrella guy out to my car and is trying to talk to me about his mission as I’m starting the engine, locking the doors and driving off.

Still don’t know what that was all about, but it put me off face to face watch buys for a long time.

@dsio that is a good story. Gave me a laugh and an elevated heart rate thinking about it. Glad you got out OK.

@dsio that really painted a picture. I was fully well expecting you to end with a link and flyer for us to join in on the "movement".

Is the watch still with you?

Dad never liked the watch as he had a pie pan Connie already and so it sat in a drawer until my mother ran out of watches with operational batteries and started using it herself, she really likes it and wears it fairly often

Reminds me of the time around 18 years ago I used to have an advert in the local paper to buy vintage watches, I once went to look at a watch in North Yorkshire, it was a gold quartz Omega nothing really special. Arriving at the house the guy took me down to his cellar where he had a bit of a man cave going on full of tools and other usual blokey stuff, standing there talking in the narrow cellar I noticed some very well sharpened knives on magnetic holders on the wall, the guy saw me looking and quickly explained he used to be a butcher, as quick as a flash he took one of the knives off the wall and proceeded to demonstrate millimeters from my throat how he used to butcher the pigs, I have never lost colour so fast or had a feeling of doom like it, I jumped back and almost pis@ed my pants much to his amusement. It worked for him though as I paid full asking with no haggling from me whatsoever 😁

If they thought times were about to end you would think they would have happily given the watch away instead of selling it. What good would money be when everyone is dead?

I just sold an echo dot thing on Craigslist today. I won it at a raffle my veterinarian was doing. No one in my house wants to use this listening device. I’m not like conspiracy guy but I’ve heard enough stories about these things where I just don’t want it. So I met the dude, he was very happy as I sold it for much less than what they go for. I told him to open the package before I took off he didn’t even bother.

So watches, yeah I’ve sold and bought a few on Craigslist. I used to buy a number a vintage omegas to send to family in China. If I got one they didn’t “approve” on to Craigslist it would go. A couple times I made 5 bucks on the sale but I sold one vintage seamaster to a guy who just retired, he was always into watches and wanted to start collecting. He loved it and we still talk to this day. Other times the negotiations were really terrible. One guy insisted I tell him what I payed for it before he made an offer. Another time I agreed on a price with someone then he expected me to drive across my state to deliver it. So that was my very brief “flipping spell”. I can’t buy watches to send to China any longer it started taking 4-5 months for things to reach their destination if they made it at all.

the only slightly scary experience was going to see a watch in a very rural area1/4 mile dirt driveway with more trespassing signs than Area 51. I pulled up and the guy came out with a cowboy style sidearm. I’m in the northeast so that’s isn’t typical behavior. Luckily I was wearing a Grateful Dead shirt, he was a dead head back in the day so the conversation went smoothly. Perhaps he dropped too much acid at a show and is now an armed recluse. Bought an old omega he invited me back as he said he might have more in an old barn. No where near as interesting as visiting a cult but yeah, Craigslist can be interesting

@dsio Great story telling! Very visual. Sounds like the Pennysaver classifieds.

Got to say the ending threw me. It was the exact opposite of what I expected. I thought it was going to be a tale of getting out and meeting people because it's a great big world.
