but instead I did this...

(for the family but mainly our super smart, high achieving, nursing school, 4.0 GPA yet utterly stressed out/can't chill but this should help with some gaming on the side, daughter).

What is it? A good computer?

Apparently, at least according to the echo in my back account it is.

Ask them to try running CoD on Ultra on their iPads... if they can sign me up for a new knee!

Nice build.

Over the summer, I got a 3080Ti hybrid and plugged it into a evga 850 T2 PSU, then recently got a gigabyte x670e master, 32gb ddr5-6000 ram, and a Ryzen 7 7700x. Cooling by a giant brown noctua cooler.

I didn’t know what it was either but it’s great to balance the needs of your family, and this thread makes it official. So when the time comes…

Awesome work! It's fun to have handy dad skills that actually garner you children's respect.

And, I also compare spending to watches. Like, I had to replace 4 major appliances this year. Could bought like 2-3 omegas, but, for some reason, my family thought having a working fridge was more important. 🙄

I used to be big into PC gaming but I think those days are behind me. My build is ancient and I’ve barely used it in years. It has a GTX 670 and socket 1366 to give you an idea. I use Mac for dev work but thought of doing a budget AMD Linux dev machine at some point.

Noctua's are excellent fans period... didn't get one for this build because I thought The Daughter would like the RGB on the Deep Cool.

Your build sounds excellent!!

I feel you... our last rig, I built it, was put together in 2010 and truthfully still working great for basic computing and older games but it could handle nothing else.
So I donated it to a local homeless shelter and decided to surprise The Daughter with a new build.
I built that 2010 rig for a grand total of $997.00 and it kicked ass but after the last two years of part's shortages, crypto boi morons snorking up GPUs and price gouging them (similar to Rolex eh?) as well as a decade of inflation I was pretty shocked at what this build cost -- in an unpleasant sort of way at that.

Deep cool is good, corsair is solid. I've been doing this for 30 years and IT is my day job so of course I play games at night to unwind. Have to choose between that or the PS5. First world problems.

Two GPUs... you mining crypto, Omega watches or just cold hard cash??!!
hehe, wish I could use it for mining but its just for architectural visualisations and VR. We use a gaming engine frequently these days so its always about MORE POWA! The dual xeons are very useful too.
