Could use a little help identifying this watch

I have this Omega watch... of which I know absolutely nothing about. online folks wouldn’t give a free appraisal and I’m not putting it on eBay. I just would like a friends price on this watch. Not a retail price. More wholesale. So if anyone would like to help, I would appreciate it. it’s an Omega Automatic Seamaster calendar. 1958 with 352 movement and 18k .0750 2849 SC. Fair condition.
There must be a lot of these watches out there. Cause the free appraiser forms I filled out. All 3 were not interested in buying it. Nor did they give their free appraisals.
Note: this watch is not for sale.

Thanks for any and all help.

We are curious why you want a friends price if you aren’t planning to sell it. It you want an appraisal for insurance, then you’ll want the retail price.

It’s a redial, so doesn’t have a ton of collectors value. If it’s a 352 movement, there’s a real problem because this should be a 502 or 503. Value is just above melt value probably.

Selling it back to a friend that sold it to me years go. It’s a family watch.

You already identified this watch by yourself.
Unfortunately, dial was badly repainted at a certain point.

If it’s a real friend, I would give him back the watch for the same money he got from You for the watch!
He get back his old watch and You get back Your money!
That’s just fair between real friends!
No profit, no bargain!
The plus for You is, You make Your friend happy who get his old watch back and even You could wear the nice watch for some years for free!
What more to ask?!

But that’s just what I would do!

Not quite that kind of friend. But I fully understand where you are coming from.

I guess I know why you assumed the movement number was 352, because of the stamp on the case back. But that's the hallmark of the manufacturer of the case, in this case (pun not intended initially), Serva SA based in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

It was 12 years ago when I gave him $400 for it. Watch was put away. Haven’t heard from him until now.

Gold was $1150/ounce in 2017

Today $1818

Calculate the difference in % and add it to the $400

Or you can just ask $550 and make a few bucks

It would be (for me), a nice chance for to renew the friendship!
Friendship is more valuable than a couple of bucks IMO! Even more if it’s for him a family piece!
Maybe he invites You to a restaurant (after Covid) or give You a nice bottle of Your favorite wine or single malt, you can drink together.

Nothing to loose...

Don’t misunderstand, maybe I am old style, it’s just how I would handle it!

Well, he insists on wanting the information, which @DON simply provided without any judgement of how to handle a friendship. Every further step is up to the OP. The condition of the movement isn’t exactly ideal, either, so I’d agree with the appraisal of just over melt value...

Didn’t want to confront anybody!
If so, I am sorry, that was not my intention!

I just wrote how I (!) would handle it!

You don't need our opinions. The only value is in the gold. Take it to a pawnshop and see what they offer you.

Hasn't heard from him in 12 years.

How do you know he won't try to flip it maybe knowing it's more valuable now?

OK. Lets look at it another way

$400 at 6% interest compounded monthly x 12 years = $820

Not saying the OP would have invested the money, but the only person who stands to gain anything is the original seller.

He gets back a watch worth twice (or more) what he sold it for with no loss. OP should get something back on his purchase. It's only fair.

Don,
Thank you for understanding. I never did get a value on the watch. I made him an offer of $750 and I ship it insured. He took the deal and was very happy with it. I made money on my investment and he was lucky to get the watch back because I held on to it all these years. I basically put it up and forgot about it. I didn’t want to put to high of a price on it and I didn’t want to go to low for the exact reason you talked about.
Thanks to everyone for their opinions.
