Why not just give it to interested Hamilton fans and let them decide if they want to reimburse you for costs? Hard to sue you if you make no money on it.

I like the idea but not many people have these marine chronometers. Unlike this wristwatch community, I don't know of a dedicated website where people exchange ideas on precision marine clocks. OTOH, eBay provides global exposure and easy payment logistics.

I believe there was a thread here about people that collect Marine chronometers- just post the booklets in the FS part/accessories section for free with repro fee and shipping, I’m sure a few people here wouldn’t mine having one for their MC.

I wrote the Pocket Watch Database yesterday to inquire about the status of copyright of this document. They responded quite promptly:
This was originally published by the U.S. Government and as a result, is in public domain.
You are free to copy, distribute, etc.
Enjoy.

Can't be clearer!

That is a great ending to your question.

Wait, as in free to use by anyone? No profit to be made or litigation to be had? Well, that’s just un-American!

They probably know about as much as we do, which is just enough to be dangerous.

My watchmaker also does marine chronometers and includes a version of this booklet with the chronometer when it's sent back to the owner after service. I don't believe it's an extra charge, just a part of the standard service.
