My grey dial says hi!
Nice pick up at a nice price. These D shaped are highly undervalued IMO, not for any reason other than the shape isn’t the pie-pan Connie that everyone wants. I love mine, one of the sexiest sport watches I own. See if you can track down a bracelet for it, the bricks aren’t cheap but incredibly comfortable and worth the price.
That's beautiful, great colour. Checking the omega vintage pages, I think this particular model originally came with a leather strap (not the one in the photos, that's new) but I'd be interested in learning about which bracelets go with particular watches and how to tell if they're original or not.. Any tips on this?

My theory in life , both cars and watches is fix them when they need fixing. You can spend a whole lot of money and effort maintaining something that doesn't need it straight away. Again, only my opinion. Thanks .
I always include a service on top of the cost when considering a watch. Also a good way to immediately confirm that the new purchase is legit

Sorry, DJ is Datejust.
I would put watches with buttons and numbered bezels in the tool watch catagory, these were meant for serious duty, not tennis at the club.
Sport watches historically have been watches meant for a more active lifestyle, made of steel, waterproof, robust in construction, shock resistant. The Connie and earlier (non-dive) Seamaster’s both fit this profile (even their solid gold variants fit in this catagory). Dress watches were historically made of gold, slim in profile and elegant- water resistance optional as you are more attentive washing your hands in French cuffs anyway.

Again I find myself agreeing. Watches such as Explorers or (most) Certina DS are sports watches to me, as are dive watches. Sports or Tool watches are overlapping to a large degree.

Guru is a very strong term, I am flattered, but I am just one man with a spreadsheet. My tips for learning about bracelets would be allot of reading, starting here: https://omegaforums.net/threads/case-bracelet-endpiece-list.81618/#post-1045310. If you are interested in getting a bracelet for this watch the 1040 with #518 endlinks or the 1172 with #515 endlinks both are correct according to the table above.

From what I can see the 1172 bracelet is much rarer. Furthermore, I have also seen the 1040 on; #18, #518, #639, #734 endlinks, but I am not sure how many of these (if any) would fit on a 168.017. Your best best is a 1040 with 518 end links, I see them come up often.

You have catalog numbers and spreadsheets, I call them bricks or rice, I think that makes you a guru to me

I definitely agree about this SS being a ”sports watch”.
Here are ”two slim self-winding sports watches”.

This is really interesting. The discription states that these are SMDVs, but no De Ville on the dial. This also confirms my suspicions that the 8260 with #50 endlinks only came on the pre-deville versions of the SMDVs, hence their rarity.

@Gyges, can I ask which catalogue this is?

Sorry to sideline the thread- but you have made my day! Finally a catalog that has my bracelet on the exact watch. This confirms is is factory correct and not added later.
