Constellation - Gold Caps

I’ve been looking online for constellations from the 60s and obviously the gold cap models are everywhere. I’ve seen some sellers list the “gold cap” as being solid gold, while others list it as gold platted. It was my understanding that gold caps from that era were indeed made out of solid gold, but now these gold platted sellers are making me think twice. Did omega really develop two variants of the gold cap?

Also, I’m referring to the gold on steel models only.

Gold capped refers to a relatively thick layer of gold bonded to a stainless steel case. Gold plated refers to a very thin layer of gold bonded to a base metal like brass. Gold cap is quite durable. Gold plate is not. Omega produced gold capped versions of many Constellation references. I’m not aware of any Constellation models made in the 1960s or during any other decade that were gold plated, but other members who are more knowledgeable than me may have additional information to offer.

The only solid-gold parts on the Gold-Capped Constellation are the bezel and caseback’s medallion.
