I came across this seller after another member posted one of their connie for sale. This seller has quite a few and was wondering if this C case is worth the asking of $900

To my untrained eye I would say this is over-priced although the pictures are pretty poor quality so they may be deceptive. It looks to have a fair amount of corrosion inside and clearly on the inside case back, and the rotor looks weirdly discoloured. All of this could be fine after a clean - I'm not sure. The case has a few dinks and scratches that degrade it, and the hands are also rather dirty / corroded. Some of the lume dots look a bit sloppy and appear to have caused discolouration on the dial. The edges look sharp enough but it's hard to say if has been refurbishes because the pictures don't show the brushing clearly enough. Overall I'd say you could find a much nicer example for that price.

I don't know enough to say if it has any incorrect parts - it looks OK as far as authenticity is concerned. I'd certainly expect a C shape at that price to come with the appropriate steel bracelet.

All that dirt that was on the inside of the case back is now in the movement so, it will need a service. It looks overpriced to me as @Engee has said and I don't like the rear of the case back in addition to the other comments. Perhaps look in the private sales here which tend to be a safer bet? These prepared watches (light box, watch display holder and white background) are hardly ever a good deal.

Out of interest, are you in UK? Purely based on you having London in your username, although that might be your family name or you could be in Ontario. I only mention this as if you're in UK, you will end up paying about 22% VAT and duty on watches from other countries.

Good luck, Chris

As it is the same model and I came across another example, would appreciate feedback on whether this is a good example of C shape 168.017. The asking is less than the previous one.

Dial is in good condition but the case is a bit worn, case edges aren't that defined any more

I'd say $700 is the upper limit, if you are patient, you can also get one with a bracelet for the same price too

Edit: Honestly this one is pretty good, since the case is already a bit worn, you don't need to baby it too 😀
Edit 2: + The crystal is original etc.

I’m surprised by the comment about the first exemple shown... to me eyes, case is in good shape as it still has his mirror facet and the brush finish on the upper part of the case is still there.
It clearly needs to be serviced because there is sign of rotor rub on the inner caseback and to have an ultrasonic bath, but I’m sure it looks better in real life.

First example is more valuable in my opinion, I don't have the historical knowledge, but the thinner indices seem more rare, and the brute-like crown is original too

I mean it's more ugly, yet I want one, so it's best if the OP doesn't increase the average market value of these 😁

Thanks for your responses, I do enjoy the look of the C shape case and will focus on those with original bracelets. Are cal 1011,1012 considered better than 564 in terms of collecting? I prefer the dial print of the 5 series though with the star. And as kaplan mentions it has that ugly elegance to it.

Cal 564 is way more collectible for most watch enthusiasts.
Those C-case were under the radar for a while but it seems that they raise in interest now, they deserve it!

IIRC Only the later non-chronometer versions appeared without a star

Cal 564 is way more collectible for most watch enthusiasts.

Don’t forget the original, early cal 561s

1000+ calibers are an entirely different beast, less valuable in my opinion, but the difference in value is like 20% - I had one, and I QUITE enjoyed using it, afaik, they hack when you pull the crown, so theoretically more features and newer cal, but early ones had issues that I now forgot

The main issue is the dial design

By the way I called the first watch you shared ugly, it's one of the earlier ones I assume, the indices are thinner, the later ones, the second watch you shared, is better looking, the indices are more robust with more detail etc. - but I personally want one like the first one you shared
