Good evening everybody,

I was wondering if I may ask for your expertise regarding a dial I saw a while ago on a 168.005 Connie, cal. 561. I should emphasize in advance that I’ve seen other redials from that seller (and quite a few) and I’m not intending on buying it - “buy the seller” and so on, also the edges of the lugs seem quite polished and the whole case isn’t in a particularly nice shape, neither is the movement. The smaller stars on the medallion of the case back are hardly visible anymore - I’ll spare you the pictures.

Nevertheless, I cannot seem to forget about the dial. I’ve never seen it on another 168.005, it doesn’t look like what’s so often nowadays being described as “stardust patina”. I know some of you have seen thousands of Constellations, did you ever stumble upon a dial like this - could it possibly be original?

As always, warm thanks in advance! 😀

Looks original but unattractive to my eye.

Well, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, I guess. But if it looks original to you, from what I’ve read from you here, that already means a lot. Thank you!

It's a common and quite often enjoyed "night sky" type patina that we seen regularly in the deep tropical south pacific. Many like myself appreciate it while others don't. I suppose if we all liked the same thing life would be boring.

Patina is like cream in one’s coffee - everyone has a different amount they like.

I think the dial looks pretty cool; case would make me do a hard pass though.
This is the type of example where, if I bought it, after a few weeks or months, I would wish the dial and case were in better nick... and then proceed to sell it for a sizeable loss.

Is there a reason for only one "T" on the right of the words "Swiss Made" on the bottom of the dial?

Yes, search this Forum or google.

Dial would not bother me, but add this case, and I'd still be looking.

If you mean "as opposed to Ts on both sides of Swiss Made" then no. That was just how Omega denoted tritium lume at that point.

Thanks for your replies. As stated in the initial post, I agree regarding the case and I’m certainly not gonna buy it. Asking price was close to 3000€ btw, and that’s a steel case.

The structure on the dial looks so evenly spread, though, that I was wondering if that was actually due to dial degradation or if it left the factory like this. You all seem to agree that it’s damage / patina and started it’s life as a regular black dial - which answers my question really. 😀
