Hi all,

First of all I would like to thank the community here. I am a silent reader since quite some time and the collective knowledge of this forum already helped me a lot. Now I decided to register and ask for help concerning a questions regarding my vintage Omega.

I own a beautiful Constellation with the reference 168.005/6 and a 561 caliber. As probably all owner of these references know, the supply of original crystals and crowns is getting more and more difficult (& expensive). Therefore I was looking for alternatives.

Crystal
The Omega logo of my crystal is slowly disappearing (thanks to Polywatch). I would like to replace it with a new crystal. However, the original crystal with reference 5015 is difficult to get in Europe and quite expensive. It has the dimensions 30.62mm x 5.5mm. I found crystal with the reference 5017 and the exact same dimensions. I am wondering if this crystal could fit this reference? I am only worried the guilt ring attachment between crystal and dial is different and hence it won’t fit / damage the dial.
Anyone has experience with that? Or anyone know where to get the 5015 crystal for a reasonable price in Europe?

Crown
I currently have the round 1664 crown installed as the original 4202 was replaced centuries ago. I am thinking about fitting an original crown on the watch again. I guess to find an original 1664 is pure luck. So I am wondering if other owners installed alternatives that mimic the original look as good as possible.
I was thinking for example about reverence 32005 (4.5mm diameter, slightly smaller) or on eBay there are different offers of 5mm diameter 10 sided crowns. Not sure which would better fit the overall look of the watch.

Thanks in advance for your help!

That is not possible. The crystals were injection molded. The logo is on the inside of the crystal, not the outside, so it can’t be polished off. Some crystals just have a faint logo.

PS-very nice watch. I wouldn’t worry too much about the parts.

Thanks a lot for your response. Yes, very happy with the watch. After polishing the still original crystal numerous times, I want to have it future proof for the decades to come with a new one 😀

With my fingernail I can feel there is something on the glas. Then it is probably a small scratch I was afraid to polish - allegedly in order to maintain the Omega logo. Good to know it's in the inside.

Fair question. I polished it many times already and I fear the availability of spare parts may further decline.
