So, this one just finished at 1150€/1350$ roughly at auction.

Described as 14902 Constellation, cal 565.

Here are some pics:

Dial looks clean. Case doesn’t appear overly polished. Not a bad example at all and considering these are 2k+ watches nowadays, it was an absolute steal.

Or was it?

A little quiz to learn something. Maybe the OF establishment can hold back for a minute and let others test their knowledge. 😀

Thanks for the quiz.. I’ll have a go:

14900 is a precursor to 167.005 so the case isn’t correct as it should be a dog leg.

IIRC the dial should be a two liner as well. This one is clearly a redial, although it looks nice from afar.

Cal 565 that’s with a date..

The hands are too long.

A lot of transplants basically.

In summary that was a steal - you’re getting 3 or 4 watches for the price of only one ✌🏼

Well spotted - even though the seller chose a great hand position to hide the length.

565 is not only a date version, it’s also not a chronometer certified movement.

I‘m sorry for whoever bought this.

That side view of the case looks a bit on the agricultural side

Absolute frankenwatch.

Cal. 565 is non-chronometer movement that was never used in a Constellation.

Someone paid a lot of money for a few good parts from different watches.

I hope @MtV doesn’t mind but I’m going to tag this example onto the end of his thread because of some similarities with the OP.

This watch is up for auction in Europe - middle of next month.
The description is more or less accurate except that the lot title says NOS.
(The case and dial are particularly nice)

I’ve had a brief (very polite ) email exchange with the auction house explaining why it cannot be NOS but it seems they have chosen not to amend the description.

The difference here is that it has a €2000 starting price.
(Which it wouldn’t warrant even if it was NOS)

Some pics.

Can you publish a link to the listing so we know which auction house is responsible for this mess?

Hmm - I could but I didn’t want to name and shame just yet as they still have a couple of weeks before the auction, so they could yet see the light.
The auction is in Italy on June 15.
I’m sure that anyone interested could find the lot if they wanted to.

For the record- the watch has the wrong hands and the wrong movt, the latter being produced around 4-5 years after the last .004 was produced.
The box is interesting being rectangular ( not ‘squarish’) but it does have Constellation on it - I wonder if it was for a ladies watch?
I don’t believe the hang tag is contemporaneous to the watch but I can’t be sure.
Definitely not NOS which implies all original ‘as new’ and untouched.
