Considering this Omega 2504-10 Honeycomb dial

Hope you're all well. I'm hoping to get some opinions on this Omega 2504-10 being sold in this listing on eBay. The seller is someone local to which I talked on the phone and who's willing to discount a bit more than 30% of the listing price when bought in cash. I haven't yet seen the watch in person.

Caliber 283 and the case seem correct for the reference, but it's the dial that's worrying me a bit. I can't seem to find another of this reference that has a honeycomb dial. In fact, from my looking around I can't seem to find another honeycomb dial (of any reference) that has a similar layout. Upon further looking at the pictures, some things stand out to me. The Omega logo text seems a bit wiggly and the A is cutoff, but also not pointy. The text Swiss Made is also not that uniform, especially the first "S". The lume markers are wiggly too.

I'm far from an expert and the non uniformity may be from the textured dial. How would you interpret the whole watch, but especially the dial? May it not be its original one or reprinted in some way or form? Would this be worth it for the price? I'm thankful for any feedback.

Don’t like the dial, crown incorrect, running fast and one case screw not correct.

look for something else

I would have never noticed the fact it's running fast. Learnt one more thing to look for. The crown does indeed look incorrect; bigger and wider than in similar references.

I'll be skipping this one. Thanks a lot for the input.

So, teach a novice to the Omega World something…how can you tell if the watch is running fast from the pics?

A = advance
R = retard

A properly running watch should have the adjuster centered.

What don't you like about it?

little triangles. Luminous looks like a different colour. Could be original

The hands appear too long, esp the minute hand which extends far past the minute track on the dial. Lugs appear very polished on photos available. The one thing I like about it is the dial

I like the dial too and this would be one of the exceptions to the hand length rule, Alpha hands are proper as well.

I think dial/hands are fine.

Generally, you are correct and this is not intended to be pedantic, however do note that on this caliber the regulator index and the arm that hold the regulating pins are separate components and can be adjusted independently.

So it is in fact possible that the regulator index is centred, but the watch has been adjusted to an extreme rate (or the opposite).

In this case, the watch has indeed been adjusted to an abnormal degree.

A properly running watch should have the adjuster centered.

By the way, I also think the watch is fine including dial and hands.

However, I’m not in love with the aging of the dial and the case and movement condition.

Thank you sir. My first Omega was a gift that belonged to my late father. It has dominated my free time reading. I knew nothing of company or the fine instruments they produce. I intend to learn as much as possible. Thanks for helping on that journey.

lugs look fine to me , there is different profile for this ref and it don’t lack consistency when you look at the back . Btw dial and hands look original to me , note that the hole size of the hands are so specific for this caliber you can’t easily put anything in its place .
This watch need a service but I like it !

Thank you all for the advice and analyzes. Decided to meet the seller and check out the watch. The case had some hairline scratches, but nothing major on the front; the back case was a bit more beat up. Dial though looked great, so I decided to go for it. Even managed to lower the price some more from what I had discussed on the phone.

Will send it for a service, get a nice strap, and enjoy this one.

It's been almost a month since I got the watch and making a small update. Gave it a light buff; changed the crown to its correct reference (a tiny bit bigger in diameter and waterproof, which the one it had wasn't); and changed both case screws. Finally, ordered a brown wild pig strap from @jankoxxx, which looks fantastic.

I have a honeycomb dial that is 38mm (jumbo) and with small seconds. So totally different watch, but I will say the dial is the same exact color and texture as yours so it looks correct to me.

Can you post a photo, just to check?
