Considering Speedmaster reduced. Some questions.

There are already excellent answers about the technicalities so I'll just give you my opinion.
If you go with a reduced, try one with the date. Unlike the standard reduced, the reduced date comes with a Valjoux 7750-based movement and it's gonna be easier to find a watchmaker willing to work on it. If you're looking after heritage and a classic piece the Pro is the only way to go IMHO. I have small wrists too (6") and thanks to the relatively short lug-lug distance my Speedy Pro wears more like a 39-40mm. I also hooked it on a MN strap so it looks even fitter on my wrist.

You really would like it. It’s a little work horse and I don’t baby it. The biggest issue might be the hesalite crystal but scratches can easily be buffed out
That sounds good. I’m sure I would like it. From what I’ve read about the hesalite, the scratches that happen are part and parcel of it and part of the charm, so going into it like that I wouldn’t been too bothered.

That pro looks great on you. I have similar sized wrists too. I’ve actually been weighing up the reduced with the triple date option for the reason you brought up. I like the symmetry of the reduced, but I also like all the complications on the date... to be honest, I like having the date on my watch. I have it on my globemaster, and though I realize that a lot of people would prefer the cleaner look without it, I like it, so the date version would work out just fine. I’m not really tied to having a “moon watch”, so the smaller ones would be just fine for me. I actually saw a date version going for around $1400 on chrono24 that looked in decent shape, but it just got snatched up. Still also thinking about the newer co-axial 38mm version too.

No Speedmaster reduced has a date, much less a 7750. Those are Speedmaster dates.

True. I think all of the Reduced have 2890s if I’m not mistaken. The 7750s are too big for the case from what I heard

My bad thanks for the rectification, yes I was referring to the 40mm Speedmaster Automatic Date/Day-Date.

You can get rid of most scratches with polywatch, I’ve done that plenty of times with my Speedmaster reduced. I also have small wrists and, for me, the Speedmaster reduced’s size is perfect.

First, I apologize if this is not the correct forum to post in. I’m not sure if the reduced is considered a modern or vintage watch, so I thought I’d post it here since I’m also considering the speedmaster 38mm co-axial.

I’ve been considering expanding my collection recently. I like the moon watch but have small wrists, so the speedmaster reduced seemed like a good option. I have read that the movement is difficult and costly to service, but I’d love to hear some feedback from people who own it, how the movement/chronograph has performed, any issues with its function, cost of servicing etc. I was considering the Speedmaster 38mm co-axial, but it’s currently quite a bit more than I want to spend. Of course I could wait a bit until the co-axial would be doable, but would be waiting quite a long time.

So, is the reduced a good solid movement that’s a work horse and reliable, or is it too much hassle to deal with? Or would it be a better choice to wait a while and pick up the speedmaster 38 co-axial?

I currently own the Globemaster silver dial, so I feel a bit spoiled in terms of daily experience with a superior reliable movement, but it could be nice to have something in contrast to the GM.
I appreciate any feedback or advice.

I bought a 38 in November, and absolutely love it.
Also tried on the Pro at the time, which was marginally cheaper.
I preferred the look of the Pro to be honest, and there wasn’t much different in the fit on my slender wrists.
I opted for the 38 as I felt I would get along better with the automatic movement given that I plan to wear the watch every day. Manual wind would just frustrate me when I (inevitably) forget to wind and find the watch has stopped on me.

That’s good to know. I’m surprised the fit is t that different considering the 4mm case difference and lug to lug. I’m with you on automatically the look of the pro. As cool as the pro is, I’m too lazy for manual wind.

Although funnily enough, on the Omega website it is neither Reduced nor Date.
https://www.omegawatches.com/en-gb/watch-omega-speedmaster-omega-da-375-0043
It did come in a variety of colours, and they appear on the various internet auction sites fairly regularly, for a reasonable price. I am very happy with it.

That's an error on the Extract. Omega doesn't refer to these as "reduced" as that is only for the watches with modular chronograph movements.

I also went through this last fall and yes, I bought a 38 for daily wear. It has worked out well, even better (personal choice) on a deployant strap. It is smaller on my 7" wrist than my standard Hesalite Speedmaster, but the overall effect is just what I wanted. The 3330 movement seems to run +1 sec/day, so I'm very pleased with that. I think the 38mm Speedmaster is kind of a hidden jem in the Omega lineup, but much like the original Reduced, it's picking up a following.

Reduced was my first Speedmaster. Very comfy on the wrist.

Woah, I’ve see a reverse panda but never an all white dial nor did I know they existed. Very nice!

I started out with a Reduced - in fact it was a absolutely trashed example. I ended up cleaning, repairing, and servicing the whole watch and bracelet. It still shows it's age and history but I'm pleased with the result.
I'm not mentioning that to toot my own horn but to say I've worked on the DD Module. Sure, it's a little tricky and not as intuitive as a chronograph movement but it's not THAT hard. I've only ever worked on one. I'm a hobbyist. Any professional watchmaker worth their salt should be able to handle it without issues. That said, I don't know if Omega charges a different premium for service compared to a Speedy Pro.
Also, full disclosure, I bought a Pro shortly afterwards. While I like the size of the Reduced (it does wear smaller than a Pro) I'm a sucker for the heritage of a Pro and a screw down case back is important to me.
I think the Reduced is a very nice watch. Mine is keeping spectacular time and handles my abuse handily (cycling, martial arts, kids, etc).
Try on that various options and go with the model that suits you best. I think you'll be perfectly fine with any of the movements. It's not like the DD Module is a cheap Asian clone or something.
Thanks for the side by side pics!
