Confessions of a Noob: My First Automatic Omega

Hello my name is Nupero and I'm a noob vintage watch collector.

I just recently bought my first automatic Omega! Nothing special, just a Seamaster circa 1965, reference 165.002 with a caliber 552. Somehow I have managed to avoid purchasing a 'true' Omega automatic watch until now. I own a few vintage Omegas with manual winding calibers, a Genève with automatic 1481 (Tissot movement) and a Constellation with a bumper automatic 354. So it was time to beef up my collection with a 5xx series watch!

A few pics of this rotor powered beauty. Strap is Fluco Chicago Whisky.

Thanks for tolerating a noob like me and have a great day! 😀

Thanks guys!

I think I need to stop buying watches with quarter Arabic dials...

And 3/4 dials...

At least the new 165.002 has steel hardware instead of gold. Variety is the spice of life 😁

Good find!! I really love that type of dial on the old Omega's.
My first Omega was a 2846 Seamaster with a Cal.501 movement. Wore it daily for two years!

Very clean! Where did you find it?

Local watch dealer. So it was not a bargain but SMs with quarter Arabics in steel are somewhat rare and like you said the watch is in crisp condition. Furthermore, to my untrained eye movement looks good. I'm going to have the watch serviced in the near future as this baby will be getting a lot of wrist time.

Your new watch is very appealing to me and I love the hue of those Fluco whisky straps. You created an attractive combination right there.

The Speedmaster here wears a 20mm Fluco whisky strap.

Wow, you hit that one out of the park! Congratulations!

This was my very first vintage purchase, now I know that the n00b tax I paid was exactly 100% of market value. But I love this watch so much that I sunk another 100% of market value in it with an Omega crocodile strap and a full professional service.

Got a bracelet (1037/570) for my Seamaster. I just love this combo!

Looks great! Both the bracelet and your previous strap pairing. Such understated elegance.

Nice clean example of a very cool dial. One of my favorite too so strange I don't own one. Just a 12-6-9 calendar. Both of my quarter-hours are a Hamilton and a Longines. Lol. Looks like I gotta upgrade the collection this year.

Welcome!

Would be an interesting collection to start - the quarter Arabic collection.
