Hello, we recently cleaned out my grandfathers estate and he left me this watch. I was wondering if I could get some help with the history of the model and the authenticity. Im not too sure on how to pop the back houding off to check the serial number. The face itself looks like it has residue on it.

It’s a 1960s Omega Seamaster Deville in gold cap, 100% real, the twistoflex bracelet is not Omega its just a cheap junk bracelet that was popular at the time aftermarket. It’s best to put it on a leather strap as those bracelets can damage the watch lugs.

It will have a Calibre 56x series automatic movement and ideally should be serviced before wearing it but the movement is an excellent one, if you take care of it and service it at regular intervals you could hand it down to your grandkids one day.

Have the service done by a good independent watchmaker that has an Omega parts account, don’t have it polished, just cleaned and have the seals changed. It won’t ever be reliably water resistant so don’t get it wet.

Hi and welcome to OF. What you have is a Gold capped Seamaster De Ville, probably a reference 166.020 with a calibre 562 movement. It will be from the sixties but to date it more specifically we would need the serial number found on the movement. However, this is a front loaded case and if you are not familiar with those, leave it to a watchmaker to open it. Shame about the dial but still nice heirloom.

Thank you so much with the help identifying this watch. Its very sentimental and I really do love the design and intend on bringing it to its former glory. I am going to leave the handling and cleaning to a reputable professional.

Beautiful heirloom piece. I would have loved to have been left one of these by my grandfather.

As above get it serviced before you start properly wearing it, but once serviced there’s no reason this couldn’t be worn daily. Being vintage yes water resistance won’t be perfect but as long as you have a genuine crystal with the notched tension ring and the crown seals are good these can be reasomably water resistant on account of the monocoque case.

Beautiful watch, your grandfather had good taste. Like others have said, get it serviced before using it. If you mention where you live, someone here may steer you in the right direction for a watchmaker.

Watch could also have a 14kt gold bezel and lugs. This would be stated between the lugs on the steel part of the case, so need to remove the bracelet.

Also. The movement comes out through the removal of the bezel and crown, but not something you should try

Do you have this paste as your F6 hot key, or your F7 hot key?

do not have it polished or refinished the dial. it must keep this patina of time which is superb.
it deserves to be adorned with a beautiful leather strap (alligator or lizard, everyone has their own choice).
nice watch, keep passing it on in your family.
