Hello there, I’m a Newby so please be gentle! I bought my son a Speedmaster 25th anniversary Moonlanding, Ref 3591.50. I’m posting this comment as when I enter that reference I’m getting very little info back. I’m wondering if anybody could comment on this gorgeous watch. It came with box and papers as well. Just FYI, I have indeed seen the book tracing the history of the moon watch, however I’d be delighted to hear any anecdotal stories and all senses of rarity and value?

Thank you so much in advance.

Tell us more about it. I'd just run a strong light, like a flashlight from a phone, over the face for a few seconds and check to make sure the hands fade at the same pace as the dial. If the hands stay much brighter for much longer it would indicate that the hands were replaced with newer ones recently. Was the watch sold to you as serviced?

I love the reference, I've considered getting one as my every day speedy and these are close enough to my birth year. Looks like you've got one of the 2500 that were sold in the US - which are slightly more desirable IMO than the unnumbered ones for rest of world (not sure though that translates to more valuable.)

If you want to know value, first stop is how much you paid. Are you concerned you overpaid or you got a screaming bargain? In terms of rarity - it's one of 2500. 😉😉

It’s a nice reference. These have the tritium based lume, and go nicely creamy yellow. Also like the tapered 1479 bracelet - sturdier than the older versions, but somehow more appropriate than the modern heavyweights.

Mine says hi

Hey Ben, thanks so much for your feedback. Yes it is 873 of 2500. I paid just over US$1200 4 years ago. Thanks for the trick about the flashlight and hand elimination. I’ll be sure to get my son to do that.

Thx CJ. Yes I know what you mean by the yellowish loom. It’s just so strange that there isn’t more out there on the Internet for this ref

$1200 four years ago? Well it's probably now worth somewhere around 4k? Sounds like a good price when considering that in the same time the dow rose 73%. Welcome to the forum! Why the newfound interest in the watch? Have a story to share? 😀

Well picked up. Yes it is a newfound interest in this forum as I was considering a speedy professional 2019. They’re just so many of them. And to be transparent and honest I would only buy one if it was also a good investment. The aesthetics go without saying. US$3650? Is that good? It’s a private sale although I have satisfied myself that it’s a bona fide seller based in my city of Sydney -so I can inspect the watch. The piece is immaculate and of course comes with B and P

I just purchased a 25th anniversary (full set) but I don’t see the omega symbol on the crystal but the seal on case-back has not been opened. I’m wondering if your watch has one?

I bought number 150/2500 new and have sold it some years back. My box and everthing was signed by Tom Stafford.
The head of Omega at the time. It was an honor to have met the man.
The first of the sereies [Did not have the Omega symbol in the center of the crystal]
I rember this very distinctly . The crystals were made of I belive Lexan Reg.TM as the actual watches used by NASA.
I hope whoever has that no.150 appreciates it.

I continue as my batery ran out before.
I have in my cabinet somewhere, a replacement crystal bezel that are new.
I purchased them as replacements in case of need. At the time, I noticed the Omega symbol in the replacement or spare purchased & not one on the original.
The Moon watch movement & cased by Lemania, not ETA.
On another note, I found it had a position error & opened the watch for iinspection.
I found that the rate error was gone when the back was removed.
My surmised that the back was torqued to tight at the factory when assembled.
This caused a slight distortion on the main plate & thus the error.
I put the back on, not as tight & the error had subsided.
I love that movement, it is all good.
If you go to Switzerland, stop in at the Omega Museum in Bien if my memory is correct.
WOSTEP CLASS OF 05/1995, They gave us a nice tour.
Out of Time! Mike

Thank you for your input. The case back on my sons watch still has the factory red seal in tact so I’m assuming the crystal had never been changed out. What did you do with the crystal and bezel?

Still have the bezel and Crystal...don't know how to sell anythig on this post if permited.
Short-Timer here....
On another note, when I opened the back the factory seal stayed intact.
There should also be a shield as I recall (Made of Mu?) to protect from magnetic fields.
Can't rember if I left my watchmakers John Hancock inside.
I repaired commecial airraft clocks for over 5 years, loved the Jager Le Coultre movements.
Nice factory and all over they had aircraft clocks in the production area.

I purchased a resale 25th Anniversary Speedmaster about 20 years ago. It came with box and papers and General Tom Stafford's signature on all the papers. As you were an original owner I wondered if you had any information regarding the signatures(where and when signed etc.)
I have been unable to find any information even from the Omega Switzerland museum. It is no. 250/2500 and the outer box has a small sticker from a shop in Ohio.
Thank you
