Unfortunately, I think you may be right. Every model released has a direct Rolex substitute (-speedmaster).

They are direct competitors so I'm not surprised there are watches that are potentially placed as direct alternatives. Part of Omega's plan is to definitely take advantage of the Rolex stock craziness.

However, I still think the UD is still unique enough (especially the Ti one) and have better technical specs nearly across the board.
ATs and OPs are such a common design that similarities are unavoidable. Omega has always been more known to have many color variations of the same model than Rolex.
The green on green SMP is just another watch hopping on the green bandwagon from the past 1-2 years. The SMP itself just happens to get compared to the submariner directly more often than say Glashutte's SeaQ (also available in green on green).

When I saw the new announcement today, the main thing that jumped out at me as a "Rolex homage" was the gold on gold speedy with rubber.

I just looked at all the offerings and it looks like I will be getting the pool heater this year. Seriously, nothing impressive. Colors on the new AT look off. Planet Ocean too damn thick, and only in 45.5.

I really do like the gold speedy with the green dial, but way out of my price range.

I think the new Speedmaster ‘57 models are quite nice - smaller in diameter and thinner than the older ones but with the same functionality. The manual wind movement may turn some off, but I am seriously considering replacing my FOIS with one. Want to try it on in person, though.

Realistically I will not buy this ultra deep, but it was definitely the belle of the ball for this release. I found the aqua terras to be very unappealing.

Introducing the new Rolex Oyster Per... ugh Omega AT's.

Seriously though the teak horizontal banding is what made that watch for me.

It seems Omega is learning from or following the Crown a bit too much.

First, same style teasers as Rolex/Tudor.

Second, really no updates just new colours to chase the hyped Rolex colours.

PO UD while not for everyone is really cool and is what Omega is known for, leading the tech. Then again, they are a business and so if the colour sell then sell those. $$$ is the name of the game.

I do like the green SMP more than white and/or gray vairant. Maybe it slides above the black for me. But Seamaster should only be blue (I am a bit of a purist in some ways).

The new moonshine Speedmaster is a showstopper, if I could wear gold and had the dough, I'd be getting that hands down.

The red AT is a welcome return and glad that its not exclusive. Would like to see the 38mm AT with brushed bracelet and perhaps no-date. I also think Omega might be experimenting with PO line in disguise. So we might see new POs with the characteristics of UD. No HEV, no date and lumed bezels with brushed bracelets and even manta lugs. I personally think SMP DIver 300 has become iconic and Omega will nto be screwing around with it much, its their submariner. PO is where they need to change and can also experiment as it doesn't have the pedigree or the following the SMP Diver does. If PO becomes a smaller variant of UD, I can see it really taking off.

Overall, I think their release are very Rolexesque now, just new colours and variations. A find that to be bit bland and boring but Rolex overflow crowd Omega seem to be chasing might call that a feature.

I only followed out of curiosity, truth be told new Omegas are now out of my price range.

So essentially the conversation between Omega and its customers went something like this:

"Hey Omega, most people are incredibly interested in a 40-42mm diver and gmt with tapered bracelet thats about 12-13mm thick. We'd also love a thinner planet ocean. And since y'all love to do re-issues, a modern 166.024 or 165.024 would be amazing. Even just adding a quick on the fly adjustment system to the Aqua Terra bracelet would be great because its incredibly useful. Thanks!"

"Ok so just to make sure we got this right, you all want a 45mm x 18mm diver thats essentially redundant because we already have 18mm thick dive watches, no gmt, definitely no 166.024 because why on earth would we ever reissue a perfect dive watch that would fly off the shelves as a direct competitor to Rolex, and some aqua terra colors no one asked for?"

"Well, no we were actu-"

"We're also sending out a speedmaster very few people can afford because it's all gold. You can look at it, but 99% of you can't buy it."

"Yeah ok thats nice and all but if we could get back to the GMT conversa-"

"The aqua terra colors include an orange-yellow that essentially looks like if a robotic baby ate a peach it was allergic to and threw it up all over the place"

"Ok thanks I guess I'll just stick to using this money to remodel my kitchen this year."

"Sounds good, don't forget to stop by for this year's August releases where we'll be announcing our new Globemaster that still has no quick adjust clasp!"

I really hope they do at least one of the things you mentioned in the summer release.
1. Reissue 166.024 or 165.024
2. thinner PO at 42mm
3. wearable GMT 40-42mm and 13.5mm or thinner

Just get one of those in the August release and I'll buy. I'll even buy directly from my local boutique at full price.

Does anyone know if this is just a regular 2018+ 300M, or if it comes in O-mega steel? Some are claiming it also has a 20-18mm taper, which I find astonishing.

Anyone confirm?

https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-...axial-master-chronometer-42-mm-21030422010001

It is described exactly like the rest of the line, with 316L stainless construction, and I see no evidence of a taper, nor do I see how they could achieve a good looking taper within the standard bracelet design. I hope not, anyway.

MSRP is also identical to the rest of the line. 😀

Thanks!

The reason I ask is because of a YouTube video that claims it has a tapering bracelet, even when comments claim otherwise. They reply back that this model has a 20-18mm taper.

I was the one who posed the last question regarding it and the channel still claimed it tapers. I'm still waiting to hear back from my Omega boutique about it but perhaps it is very gradual like the channel mentioned to the point where it's not noticeable? I'll update once I hear back. If it indeed does taper though then I am indeed likely going to replace the original bracelet with it on my Tokyo SMP!

Agreed, and I probably must have read your comment alongside others with the same remarks.

A 2mm taper would be awesome and practical for this watch, despite losing some authenticity to the original design.

I don't see it either! It just puzzles me how adamant the channel is about it and responds with the exact same message every time it's questioned/asked, "Bracelet: 20 mm between lugs, 18 mm on clasp ... it tappers gradually". 😕

Looks like Omega listened to the customers and came out with a thinner more wearable PO..........🤔

I am surprised there is no "teal" AT.
