Decided to organize my closet. Found these pieces underneath some shirts-well hidden.
    -an Elgin Bumper
-a Hamilton with a weird crystal with cyclops at 12(?)
-a gold plated Bucherer with a Chronometer rating
    -a UG
    -a military 24 hr Bulova
    -a Pershing Eagle (Elgin?)
    -a huge art deco Elgin

Familiar with Bulova and Bucherer. Can someone tell me about the rests please? Thanks.

And you've never seen these before? Do you suspect the watch fairy hid them there to reward you for having a great collection of shirts or what?

Have so much clothes, piles of shirts. Just can't remember when I got them. One of those "flea market trips" here in Chelsea NYC and Penn probably. Also found an old bumper Le Coultre seeminglybwith a Vacheron movement.
Yes my watch fairy (not rewarded) bu reminded me that too much of anything is bad-except watches.

I cleared out a few small boxes in my office this evening and found a mummified grasshopper.

    Life isn't fair.

yes, the general pershing is an elgin.

the elgin bumper probably has the 607, but maybe the 618. I believe the 607 was the first American made and serially produced automatic. elgin would later produce the 760 and 761, full rotor and freesprung. again, I believe first and only American made movements to have these features.

I think bulova and gruen had autos but the were assembled here from swiss made parts.

the military bulova is probably the A-17. a relative of the a-11, but with the 24 hour navigation dial.

I used to know more about this stuff and may be wrong. it's been a while.

Yeah, I went into my old garage and found a Ferrari GTO I forgot I had bought on a drunk whim one night?

Now that's a good cleaning find. The Elgin bumper and UG are definitely the sort I keep my eye out for at flea markets and estate sales especially; never seem to find them in decent shape around here though.

That large Elgin DOES look very much like a possible PW conversion to my eyes, although PW's aren't my thing.

My thoughts exactly re "big" Elgin. Conversion or not, I like it. Like a an old Oldsmobile converted to a "Shelby"-no?

I actually missed one to post IMG_4400.JPG -this one a Le Coultre. Dial is a mess but still looks good. It has a VXN movement(Vacheron?). Still keeps great time at least for a day

VXN has nothing to do with Vacheron & Constantin. It is a US import mark the was assigned to Vacheron-LeCoultre division of Longines-Wittnauer Company. This was the importer of the watch and a US company.

Aaah-sorry for the confusion. Not sure if it happens to you but with me sometimes I get carried away buying things and keep them somewhere and then "boom"you forget I even have them. That is what I meant.Have shirts from years ago with tags and I forgot I bought them.

Had a few watches come in one week and a few parcels on one day actually. One got put in the draw with all the placemats when the table was cleared. Two years later it was a great find as I had forgotten all about it. Had opened it and looked but having several others at the same time plain forgot all about it.
