On the contrary, I am very surprised they even did just that, as a matter of fact!
Why on earth would they do a thing like that I'd like to know!?

I'm sorry too that this happened and hope they fix this issue with you asap!

That's Omega Service's attitude: the watch was perfect when it was brand new, so their job is to make it look exactly like it did when it was brand new.

I think you are missing the fact that the parts changed are extremely expensive. They do not change backs and bezels for free.

But apparently they do, unless some individual at Omega or the retailer where the poster handed in the watch swapped them out.

I think someone in the middle love your case back, anyway a case back is chargeable in all cases, and Omega return all the parts no exception that the difference with Rolex. Contact them and explain you situation but something not Omega rules appended here .

Somethings fishy. And a fish smell in Switzerland is really fishy.

the caseback should not have been replaced.

With the whole thing I wonder why the bottom cover had to be replaced. Is this a standard procedure to get the "look" of a new watch?

Can anyone else service the X-33, as I’m sure I read it has to go back to Omega?

A problem I’ll have sooner or later, sure the likes of Simon Freese don’t touch them.

Hope you get it sorted, these sort of things shouldn’t happen.

I hope this isn’t insulting, are you sure of the provenance of this watch?

Is there a possibility that Omega popped off the case back and identified it wasn’t correct for the serial number?

This is heartbreaking. I hope you are able to recover the case back at the very least.

If that was my watch i'd be absolutely raging to say the least, someone and i doubt it was Omega has mugged you off BIG time, probably just assuming you were wet behind the ears and didn't have a scooby as to the provenance of the watch you had, but you do and i hope for your sake you get to the bottom of it, i wouldn't stand or take any kind of baloney excuses from anyone over this and if it were me i'd like to meet the deceiving little roger hunt and watch him squirm as i question him, of course before he gets what he deserves 👍 🤬

Sorry for the slight digression here, but I'm reminded of a Daytona that I bought, used, from my AD. I bought with the understanding that it would be serviced, and when it came back, there was no warranty card (important for the Rolex WISes). I asked for it, and my guy said "we stopped sending watches to Rolex for service because they change parts willy-nilly, and on some older, especially vintage watches, that will affect the value."

So this is not an uncommon practice, but for the life of me I can't imagine how anyone would think that the original back on this watch was damaged and needed to be replaced, unless perhaps the threads were boogered up. And even then, as others have mentioned, you'd expect a line item and cost for that.

This smells.

Shenanigans! I call shenanigans!
Like most everyone has said, someone nabbed your caseback. Whether it was an Omega tech or someone where you dropped it off is the debatable point.
I have a watch in with Omega currently. Bezel replacement is part of what I wanted. It is a separate and optional line item that has to be approved (and paid for) separately before they will even begin service. Your receipt should have had that line item.

I heard that some watchmakers emigrated to North Pole actually 😀)), 140dave is right , it is time to say the real words , someone rob you case back ( the bezel is not important still the same) , for the service of the X33 I made one last year fairly easy , new module , new battery , and polish if not declined ( titanium is hard) no a real service .

now your real problem if Omega start to ask you questions is to prove the watch gone with the prowler for service , but it is enough rare to point it somewhere, when you send a watch to Omega you are supposed to get even you say service it , a document stating the state of the watch with 2 pictures and asking you again to commit service , if the case back is shown on that paper you can start to spread napalm .

UPDATE 25.10.2020
I just picked up the watch at the Store and indeed they found the backside back. I am halfway relieved but would have wished to also return the old Bezel.... Omega did not offer any excuse or explanation and also no discount on the service.

I am glad that the part obviously was not stolen, but still surprised about the carelessness and amateurism in the service center. As mentioned by others in this forum, they really should have known what they are dealing with.

So the only thing left to say here is that when sending a watch with some history in it to Omega for service, you should describe really exactly what you want to have done under the assumption that they will otherwise rip the thing apart and reassemble it with new parts. If you want a new watch, that might be fine...

I myself will for now hold on OMEGA's - this was just way too wired.

Your issue is not with the Service Center, it's with the store that handled the repair details. They stole your property. They should be named, you are probably not the first victim of their business practices.

The store did really their best, but all the mistakes have been made at OMEGA...

As you haven't been charged for the new caseback I also don't think it's the Omega service center being at fault.

Have you contacted Omega directly with the reference numbers? I think they would be most interested in either clearing their name and/or their reputation being damaged by the dealer...
