Does anyone have advice on how to clean blackened and discolored gold / gold alloy on old watches? Is it possible?
Thank you!

it is easy - take a silver cleaning (polishing) cloth and wipe it gently and carefully

Patina on gold can be beautiful though. When it’s gone it’s gone.

Thanks - I have 2 or 3 watches with this issue and it does not look good on some of them, I assure you 😀

Gold is a metal that that wears history. The Japanese writer Tanizaki wrote a great book about that. I would keep it.

Pure gold doesn’t do that. It’s the copper, silver and other metals in the alloy that are forming the patina.

How does one prevent the discolouration from recurring? I seem to find it happening more if I wear them less but I'm not sure if this is true or just coincidence

Sure! But 24 gold is not common on watches!
