Cleanig Pie Pan Dial Rust

Hello,

So I have received this Constellation ref 14381 4 SC.

The dial looks very bad. It seems rusty and it seems there is no solution online to fix this.

When I check online the other Constellations I see on Instagram look all shiny with this stupid neo jazz music on the background (but that does not look great either)

Any help with tips to clean the dial would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Marc

Hi Marc!

No stupid neo Jazz music here on Omegaforums, I promise!

Forget about cleaning the dial, it doesnt look so bad and you will make it worse!

Polish the crystal with Polywatch and the watch will look better, I'm shure!

Good luck!

Don't attempt to clean the dial!! You'll ruin the watch if you attempt to "take the rust off."

A brown strap might look better than black with that dial. Also, try dinner jazz instead of neo jazz.

If you don't like it, perhaps you can return it.

That is commonly seen bubbling due to degradation of lacquer layer in Omega watches of this era. It’s actually not too bad. As far as cleaning it, as they say in New York:

Martin Brundle said it best, he was referring to driving while angry but it works with cleaning watch dials too. You can only go sideways or backwards.

A well respected and extremely experienced expert member here once said:

"Only attempt to clean a dial if you're prepared to destroy it."

Or words to that effect.

I'm bookmarking this quote.

maybe I'm numb and yes it's not ideal but the dial also doesn't seem too bad. if you purchased it and it looks substantially different than it did in photos, than yeah maybe try to return it.

I think that this watch will look quite good from wrist length after crystal polywatch polish. Case is quite worn but consistent with vintage look of dial so it will present well as a nice vintage Constellation.

I definitely wouldn't say that dial is very bad!

Gotta look at the whole package here. Patina is even. Its fine. Polywatch. Service movement, no case polish.

Some dials can indeed be cleaned, but the one in question certainly cannot. As said, polish the crystal, put on a matching straps and enjoy it!
