Hi newbie here. I just bought this brand new SMP300 in end of October 2024 and I noticed that the clasp closed unevenly.

Is this normal? If it’s a defect will Omega replace or fix this for me?

This is my first expensive watch, so appreciate if you guys can guide me. Thank you.

Mine used to do that. I hated it. One of the reasons I got rid of it. If they want to charge 6k for a watch that clasp needs to be flush with it’s bracelet and much smaller.

Take it back under warranty for sure, they’ll have to resolve that issue for you

Does it do that when it’s not on your wrist? Like that’s just how the clasp shuts?

I’m asking because I’m wondering if it just has to do with the shape of your wrist and how the bracelet is seated at that angle. Mine (an earlier gen of the same watch) does that to some extent too, but only when it’s on my wrist.

P.S. I am not an apologist for the new model clasps. If you search around here you’ll find that I had super annoying issues with two of them before abandoning that model altogether. But I’m not sure yours is defective.

Hi, thank you for replying. Mine is off both on and off wrist.

Thank you, does it have to be the exact AD or any service center would do. I bought this from an AD in an airport, so a bit tricky here…

Then yes that seems out of spec.

Any AD can submit it to Omega for service. See if they can just send in the clasp or bracelet and let you keep the watch. (You can just wear it on a strap in the meantime.) Otherwise you may be without the watch for several weeks or even several months. Omega service can be very slow—even warranty service.

"Can be"? Two months for my new white speedy that had runtime issues. 3 months for normal service on an automatic speedy. 6 months for one that had to go to switzerland. So, yeah, it's slow. My SMP 300 clasp is fine after two years, even the adjustment.

Does it have any of the protective film still stuck in there? Sometimes it's hard to get it all removed.

Wow that’s incredibly slow…hopefully they’ll order me a new clasp and I can just take my watch back for a swap, without leaving the watch with them…

Someone on here said that those are backordered right now too.

Yep. I recently waited 5 months for a standard service. But warranty work is typically a little faster.

But definitely ask about keeping the watch. When I had clasp issues they did this for me. (The second time they also gave me a strap and buckle for free—several hundred dollar “gift” to make up for the faulty clasps.)

Wow that’s cool! I would hope they can do that for me too (lol).
But if it’s going to take much time, I might need to do it here in Hanoi, not from Seoul where I bought it from.

It really shouldn’t matter what AD or OB you send it from as long as you have the paperwork—they’re going to send it to the same place.

I second this, definitely see if they can order the replacement clasp while you keep your watch. I had an issue with my seamaster clasp and my Boutique was also able and willing to do this for me.

Just an update, took it to Omega service center here in Hanoi, the technician said that the pin might not be straight, but it can still be used. Bottom line this was NOT manufacturing defect…I’m a bit confused 🤔 Even the guy said the pin’s not straight. I’ll email Omega directly.

Good call. You might be able to remove the bracelet yourself (it’s easy to do; just be patient to avoid scratches) and mail it directly to Omega.

Sounds like they are saying it’s within specs. Based on your photo it seems barely noticeable but I understand that some people are obsessive about minor QC issues.
