Cigars for watches

hello, I have about 45 Cuban cigars. Some are limited edition rolled in 2003,2004,2005. I have them online for sale with a humidor for something like 1,200. Actually a good deal many of these cigars can’t be bought and most are properly aged for 10 years. I got an email offering me an oris tti1-7587-72. Problem is it’s 43mm, a bit big for me and I know less about oris than I do about the cosmos. Wondering what u think of this particular watch. Showing you the couple pics I have of the watch so far and a portion of my cigars out of the humidor. This is probably a strange post. I bet there haven’t been many cigars for watches threads. It’s a local trade. Wondering if anyone can make heads or tails of this. I have no idea if this is the right section for this but at least it’s unique.

I looked up the watch -- I think it's the TT3 (not TT1). Based on the FS prices on different sites, it seems a fair trade for the $1200 in cigars ... but only if you really, really like the watch.

Love me a cuban every now and then. Thankfully I have cheaper taste, around 6 to 15 a stick or else I wouldn't be able to afford watches haha.

I was thinking tt3 as well. The numbers he gave match up with the 3. I really like oris the only thing making me think is that 43mm. My biggest watch is a 40mm Tag and this 39mm speedy is about perfect. He did have another oris it has a 60 on top where the 12 is and is more of a tanks style. I like that one but he knows nothing about it. I can look around see if I find it online. He also hasn’t had it serviced so need to take that into consideration. Maybe I’ll go down to the shop tomorrow try on some 43mm. Damn I’m posting things I’m talking to myself about

And yeah that crown looks bigger than some of my vintage or midsize watches

43 is a big watch, especially without a big bezel like a diver to make the dial surface area smaller. I had a 42 like this and it just wore too big. The oris I would be attracted to is the 65 at 40mm. That said, if you aren’t smoking those cigars and you just want to swap for the watch, if you end up not liking it, it’s an easier flip.

Just got another offer for a Tag caliber 5. I know Tags aren’t big around here but I know a few people who speak highly of this one and even with Tags losing value faster than a car off the lot it is a reasonable trade. He said he would throw something else in, I think an older seiko. There is someone on the forum interested and I told him I would withhold any deal till he makes a decision and I will honor that but I’m at least getting some decent offers. He sent me a quick text picture I know these things are faked but it may be legit. I can get more pics later

cubans are overrated just like SS rolex watches. I do like a good cohiba here and there. don't like giant cigars. really give me a bad headache afterwards.

I go with the Oliva series O torpedo

Agreed on most levels but there are some Cubans that nothing Dominican or Honduran can touch. Like wine or coffee, it’s all about soil, water, elevation etc. I love almost anything from the Punch/Hoyo brand that we can get in the states but I have box each of Cuban Hoyo Epicure’s and Partagas Series D that are out of this world...nothing like them outside of Cuba.

There are several Hoya epicures in my collection. When the western explores arrived in Cuba for the first time tobacco was already being farmed in the country. So what’s that, well over 600 years of tobacco cultivation on the island. I don’t knock Dominicans, I have had some great ones. Some Fuentes and others have deep layered flavors like Cubans but damn a you get a nice aged Cuban partagas and it just blows any Dominican. Still though to each his own.

Yes very true. It is reported that prior to Kennedy signing off on the embargo he had a staffer load up on H. Upman coronas. When the embargo is finally lifted, it’s going to happen someday, it’s not like Cuba poses a threat and human rights wise we deal with worse countries everyday. Cuba already has trouble meeting demand. I’ve come across a few that were a little green. The US will make this problem much worse. If I don’t hear back from the other gentleman I figure I’ll get this Tag. I really need another diver considering I don’t swim.

You don't have to go across the pond...just go a little North and you can smoke all the Cubans you want...

The Tag is fine and easier to sell if you don't like it. Nice collection of cigars👍

Used to enjoy cigars and a pipe. Haven't smoked anything in many years. Just fell out of favor for me (fortunate for my health, I suppose). But just wanted to say that this is a very entertaining proposition to hear about and follow. Nice collection of cigars, btw!

What I find amusing is that there is so much cross training of interests among collectors. And that something like cigars are a collectible and have such value. I have been a pipe smoker for a while and the market for sealed vintage (aged) tins of pipe tobacco is insane. Tins of Dunhill they were $3.50 20-30 years ago selling for hundreds. It is indeed just like wine collectors.
