This serviced Lucerne strikes my fancy for a cheap watch…$100 plus shipping. My thoughts that the recent service alone should make it worth it. Thoughts and input appreciated.

Bettlach pin lever movements are amazing. I think they are quite underated. Unlike a swatch they "can" be repaired.
It is always interesting how nice some of these can look on the outside. The finish on the plates can be suprisingly good for such a cheap watch.
Not sure if pin lever will ever be a good timekeeper. The do however have a loud and satisfying 'tick.'

I am also amazed at what these can sell for. And some say the vintage market is soft.

The very thread - or does £85 serviced take it out of ‘cheapo’?

Certainly vintage and to this beholder, a ‘beauty’.

£85 for a service?! That's still cheap! 😲

No, £85 for the watch that had been serviced by the watchmaker/seller before he sold it.

My total expenditure was £85 😁

That's not cheap. That's almost like free money!

😎😎😎 Actually, I’ve just checked my eBay listing and it wasn’t £85 (my mistake) it was £60!

I’ve had a couple of purchases recently, I know we all do it, where it turns out that I’m the only bidder, and this was one of them.

It was so nice when it arrived, that I contacted the UK seller to ask, very politely, if it was a Mumbai special.

He was slightly indignant but explained that he had to replace the crown when he serviced it and that it had clearly not been worn for years.

Apart from the condition, what tempted me was the 37mm diameter

Hi. Do quartz watches qualify here? This is my favourite truly cheap piece- a Tokyo Bay tv screen style, all stainless steel with original bracelet. Keeps excellent time. Cost $10 at a New York thrift shop.

Unfortunately it’s a bit scuffed.

To me anything that sells under 500 a cheapo vintage beauty when a lot of us spend more than that for a vintage watch. Picked this up for under 500 seen them sell for 700 to 2500 even with the dial wear I think I did good.

That's a great pick-up! Those 665-1s have really rocketed up in value recently (as have the manual-winding ones, though they can still be got for under 1000, at least for now), and you were very lucky to grab one of the few remaining cheapies out there.

Let’s start a thread for Cheapo Vintage Beauties.

These are the uncollectible, unsung beauties of the vintage watch world – local brands, knockoff designs, Ebauches movements and every so often plated cases. CVB-thread guideline: in-house movements are frowned upon and signed crowns are barely accepted 😁

I’ll start with a Milljonär Scandinavic. Milljonär was a small Swedish brand that operated from the 1950s to the early 1970s. It sold cheap, often chrome plated, watches and frequently copied its designs from another popular cheapo brand, Atlantic. Imagine being a poor man’s Atlantic… Well, that business concept proved to be a pretty successful one and eventually Milljonärs were peddled via mail order magazine adds throughout the Nordics.

This Scandinavic is all steel and in fantastic condition, it even had the caseback sticker on when I got it. It features a tritium dial, robust Unitas 6325 movement and bizarre caseback markings. A fun watch and well worth the 22€ I paid for it.

Boatload of tritium. Still glows surprisingly strong after light exposure.

I guess missiles and tanks were in vogue during the Cold War.

“Wehrmachtswerk”, a common heart of a CVB.

It’s kind of crazy how much joy wearing this thing brings me. I even decided to put it on a nice Hirsch Ranger strap, effectively doubling the value of the watch.

Let’s see your cheapos! 😀
A beautiful watch in great shape. Does it keep good time? This post is inspiring. I'm sure many watch collectors have non-big name watches in their collection.

I don't know if this counts as a cheapie as it cost me GBP192 (it's gold). I wear it often.
