I know this is a stupid question but I am changing a battery on a Cartier tank and I cannot get the new battery to seat in properly. What am I doing wrong to not get it to stay? It's not a problem with the new battery as I have tried putting the old one back in aswell and can't even get that to stay.

There are usually two contacts for the cell on quartz watches. The “finger”at to bottom of the cell recess is the negative cell contact. There should also be a positive cell contact which touches the outer edge of the cell, and in some instances, this contact will hold the cell in place. Sometimes it won’t hold the cell against spring tension from the negative contact. If the positive cell contact is missing (I can’t tell from your photos), the watch won’t run. Try putting the case back on to see if the cell is held in place, and the watch runs.

Possibly you accidentally broke off a clip when removing the battery. Wouldn't be the first time.
