TGV sure does love his DW290 - cool vid. Agree with him. Wearing my new DW6900U today - not a huge fan of the new LED backlight, but can't argue with the extended 5 year battery life. A military classic.
Have to agree with his assertion that this hobby is accessible to all, and that a low cost watch can give just as much joy and satisfaction as one costing thousands. "It's what the watch does for you that's important", not what it's worth. That's certainly the case with my G-Shock square.
I quite like the shape and functionality of that DW-290. However, the lack of Tough Solar would be a deal breaker for me.

·That's interesting regarding tough solar - I know the last 2 Royal Navy issued G-Shocks have also been tough solar - the most recent that I know of being multi-band 6 too. That one is an interesting choice - not the most legible! Newer model is the analogue digital GAW-100, older the digital GR-8900.

·Just looked up the specs. That's pretty impressive. Having an altimeter, barometer and thermometer would make it perfect for bush walking or mountaineering. Solar power is icing on the cake. Haven't come across one in my travels, but 44.5mm case diameter might be a bit too big for me sadly.

NASA astronaut Gordon Fullerton at the gantry crane Mate-Demate device facility at Kennedy Space Center Florida. NASA had two of these cranes to put a Space Shuttle orbiter on the back of a NASA Boeing 747 . One device at the westcoast Edwards AFB California and one at the space shuttle landing facility airport at Kennedy Space Center Florida.
NASA used two SCA - Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, a Boeing 747-100 (N905NA) and a Boeing 747-100SR (N911NA) which was a short-range version.
In 1966, USAF Major Gordon Fullerton became part of the military MOL - Manned Orbiting Laboratory project and was selected a NASA astronaut during group 7 selection in 1969. He flew on two space shuttle missions, spending a total of 15 days 22 hours in space.
During the 1977 ALT - Approach & Landing Tests with orbiter "Enterprise" , Fullerton often wore a CASIO quartz calculator wrist watch.
He also wore this CASIO during Space Shuttle "Columbia" mission STS-3 in March 1982.

·Great posts guys - I believe NASA also uses the MRW-200H for their WB-57 High Altitude Research Program - or at least they used to.

·My first watch - Casio Moon Robot Fight bought from Argos in the UK in January '85 when I was 6. Approx £16.99 but dont expect to pay that now! This is a rebuy - I think I destroyed the original in the pool in the late 80's - probably around somewhere though. A bit beaten up but fully functional - the game is still suprisingly addictive. 😀

·1990 Casio "Arnie" AMW 320C - this is the model worn in Kindergarten Cop. Also worn by various military so I've been led to believe. This is the one to have with the buttons on each side - with metal inner pushers far less prone to failing, unlike the later generation 320D with plastic.

Fantastic to see your old Popeye Nintendo Game & Watch - I had Snoopy tennis and Donkey Kong. Never seen a Casio Calculator with a game before - seen a calculator watch with one but not a full size calculator - great stuff! Thanks for sharing! 😀
