Ah dang yeah these are the stories that keep me away from "modding" my daily.
I was planning on replacing my GTI at the the end of the year with a lightly used B9 S4 but with the market right now I don't think that is going to happen lol.
I've had 3 other Audis that were ECU tuned only and they were all very reliable. If I were to do it again I'd stick with Stage 1.

I have an Audi B7 S4 avant with MT. New motor at 90K miles, JHM manifold, headers, catless mid-pipes, radiator delete kit, LW crank pulley and JHM tune. I enjoyed the hell out of this thing for another 90K miles. Probably makes north of 360 HP at the wheels and blows the doors off of my 993. The last year it has been an expensive nightmare. Now trying to figure out why car goes into "limp mode". Have replaced the throttle body, new ecu, checked all connections, etc, etc. Yet the same issue resurfaces. Throttle sensor issue which is intermittent. Gotta be a loose wire in there somewhere....

I like to think I take after my car. My wife may describe me differently.

I have long been a VW/Audi guy, and before my run of GTI's I had a B7 A4 that was APR "stage 2" among other cosmetic enhancements...mostly slammed to the ground lol. I was always fixing stuff on that car for the 2 years I owned it. Can't really blame the car though...for most of the "issues".

I would buy a B7 S4 Avant right now if I could find the right one.
Yours sounds quite nice. I'm not super familiar with the V8's so I have no input there.
But I'm assuming you've been on the Audi forums?

I blame my right foot. He's a total A-hole. Always breaking stuff and getting tickets.
If not for my left wrist and right foot I'd have a lot more money saved up.

Yeah, I've been on Audizine. Seems like it may be as simple as re-crimping a few connections. But not sure.
If you are interested shoot me a pm..I can tell you all about the 4.2 V8...

Racing Yellow 911 Carrera T. Slick top with a manual transmission. Happy to have gotten my hands on a new three pedal car before they stop making them.

Volkswagen R36. Owned for 10 years so far, fantastic car - though showing its age a little these days. Will be difficult to replace for anywhere near what it originally cost me. May downgrade to a Golf R or just go something else entirely, not decided. Would ideally like to go to an Audi RS3, but prioritising building a house makes that a no go. Price no object, an Audi RS4 or even RS6 would be the dream but yeah... price is unfortunately an object. 😜
