Could some of the parts have been 3D scanned in order to reproduce them by means of powder metallurgy?

Maybe. But in an engine? Maybe it’s just as good. Holthinrichs 3D print their watch cases and buckles using steel and gold (but there is still a lot of handwork that needs to be done after the fact)...so it’s definitely possible.
