I think it's Tissot seastar navigator.
Prolly more affordable than the Heuer in the 70s

I have my doubts because of the subdial colours, but this would be absolutely amazing - Here's my1973 model.

I only have a Navigator to play with - but it does look like a Tissot Seastar is possible (7734)....

I got sucked down into the rabbit hole and had a quick peek on Google - all I can say is that there is a multitude of amazing chronographs from the 70s that I would love to own 馃

I think that since he was a flight lieutenant it's less likely to be a diver and more likely to be a pilot's watch. Unless he was fond of diving, then...

Looks as if he wasn't a pilot or navigator.
