Can you identify this chronograph from a 1970s photo

Greetings Omega Forums Super Sleuths. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to identify the watch in this photo. This won't be easy as the photo quality is not exactly great.

It is being worn by Flight Lieutenant Dudley Simpson of the RNZAF & that's me on his back. The photo was probably taken around 1975-1977.

I would like to know which watch my Grandfather is wearing in this photo of us together as I would like to buy one for myself.

Do your best Gentlemen, and thank you.

Could there be a bezel ? And possibly a date window at six ? Autavia ?

I’m was thinking Autavia Viceroy as well as I see a bezel, but the sub dials are too small. Makes me think it’s a 7733 based watch as they tended to have smaller subdials that were farther apart.

A Major in the RNZAF?
Sure he wasn't a Flight Lieutenant?

Would his initials be DWS?

Probably right about the sub size, although I was talking about the manual wind Autavias like the 7734 powered ones.

Yes: DWS. Flight Lieutenant is correct - I just checked. I have no idea why I got that wrong.

Thank you all so much - I did think 7733 as well, but the bezel has thrown me off because it's quite pronounced. I am digging out more old photos to see if his watch features in any of them.

Lovely original photo - just not the best for a watch ID.

V7733 was obviously found in lots of brands and it does seem a particularly 70s style of case. Here are a couple of Dugena ones, with not dissimilar dials - although the cases don’t match I know that Dugena used a variety of case styles for these incabloc movements - with and without outer bezels - so it’s not inconceivable that other brands would have done likewise.

(not my photo - sourced on Instagram)

it’s a great puzzle - good look in your hunt!

I think it has a date at 6. Perhaps Heuer Autavia 7863?

Subdials are too big and OP’s watch is a C case. The problem is there were so many Landeron 248 and 7733 C-cased chrono’s made during this period. It could be a no-name brand.
I do love these treasure hunts!

I do think there is a white date window at 6, so that knocks out a Landeron and would most likely be a 7734 movement

Not so fast! Landeron 189 & 187 😉

Let's hope the date window is not in fact an unknown griffin logo 😁

I think it's Tissot seastar navigator.
Prolly more affordable than the Heuer in the 70s

I’m linking this option- did Tissot do a reverse panda?

As far as I know, there's no reliable sources on these pieces. They come in a variety of dial and sub dial colours, hands and so on 😁

But I think you're right, I never seen a reverse panda version of the tissot seastar.
My bad I couldnt see the white sub dials at first glance
