You expose your precious moonwatch to the SUN?!? It was NOT designed for that! :whipped:

Yea cut the guy some slack. Better safe than sorry. Also, it’s always fun to play the NASA card (which I did first). But the fact of the matter is those guys broke a lot of watches.
Plus I think they only cost about $250 back then!

…Is it okay to wear it regularly cutting the grass with a push mower in a bumpy yard?
I do it…haven’t had any problems…yet…

You can wear it cutting grass
You can wear it kicking ass
Slap it on while in a tizzy
Snap that clasp when you are busy
Please, though, keep your Speedy clean
Then the Forum won’t be mean

My all-time fave on this theme is the one titled “Can I wear my speedmaster while eating raclette?”

Dude, you BETTER not be wearing that absolutely pristine 1971 Speedmaster that I sold you while mowing the lawn. While flying, sure. Motorcycling, ok. Hooters, fine, but stay away from the tip jar. But mowing the lawn? C’mon, dude. 😲

There is no grass on the moon. Not certified.

That is a job well done by the astronauts.

Another newbie question… since I got it, I try wearing my speedmaster as much as possible, I don’t want to baby it, but don’t want to abuse it of course. Is it okay to wear it regularly cutting the grass with a push mower in a bumpy yard? Or will the vibrations and movements mess up the internals?
No, No, DON’T.
wear it only for space travel, it was cerified for that purpose.
IF you are in a risk taking mood, you may wear it to drive a car. This is what it was initially designed for but as far as I know, no national racing car agency has ever certified it for driving, so it would be at your own risk. But if you do, please report in a separate thread. we will all be interested!
[jokes mode off] I think a speed can handle grass mowing but even the toughest watch will need service and the harder its life is, the sooner and more important this service will be. So I would avoid such treatment.

Mow, run a chainsaw, haul the limbs, cut down the bigger ones for firewood...

Also, wear while Jeeping and winching out said Jeep.

Wear in a fire...

Wear while rocking Les Paul ...

etc, etc...

I keep my Speedy out of the grass and on my wrist, I find that to be pretty effective overall.

My beater:

I spent enough that I'm not taking it off just to mow the lawn. In the scheme of things, mowing the lawn is not even on my radar of things that might damage or scratch my watch. Unless I flip the ride-on or fall down a hill and the pusher tumbles on to me, I guess. I consider removing it if my hand doesn't fit into whatever hole I'm reaching into.

First - Congrats. I love that watch, too. I too wear my Seamaster a tonne more when I think I have work to do. Rightly or wrongly, I just view them as much more durable than my Speedy.

That being said ..... To the OP : Yeah, I wear my Speedy doing everything that doesn't involve me having it under water. Woudl I wear it mowing the lawn? Probably not - but for a different reason. When I get hot like that, I like having a watch with an adjustable bracelet ( and my speedy doesn't ) and hence my Seamaster or something like a Seiko on a tropic strap.
