Can a Speedmaster be a proper dress watch?

I wouldn't wear one with a dinner jacket ('tuxedo' for our colonial chums) or in white tie - but I would have no issue wearing one with a suit.
Suit is not dress...

Magnator, without getting specific, you would be surprised at what some of the "Lesser Royals" have worn at formal events. To preclude any questions regarding specifics, discretion is the word. Merely observing protocols, not trying to be mysterious.

No, I wouldn't be surprised at all. They do not all follow what would be considered normal etiquette.

Suit is not dress...

Agreed. But I didn't think it was too off topic to mention it.

You see some wild dress these days, I don't think anything is a faux pas any longer. I see men wearing loafers with no socks in a suit. If that is ok any watch can be a dress watch.

Absolutely. Time to find a new church and maybe slap that guy with your glove on the way out.

I've worn Speedmasters with a tux, but a nice black Sub is better. Stopped owning and wearing dress watches maybe 30 yrs ago. I think some look great on others' wrists, just not on mine.

Mike Delta, you should wear your Vans next time. They should be thankful you aren't wearing your Sunday Metallica T.

That’s not wild... it’s been Italian for decades.

I'll go against the grain here and say it is not a dress watch in the purest sense. It's neither thin, nor date-only, nor <40mm. That to me is the definition of a dress watch.

Strictly speaking it’s not a dress watch, but then again on a black leather strap, you could probably pull it off wearing it with a tux.

Someone found the original of this image and sent it to me.

Where do you get such technology?

At the Paint X Lite technology store?

Seamasters rock the black/white tie dress too imo.
The 43.5 POs easily fit under cuffs too.

1964 105.003 “Echo Whiskey” with church clothes for usher duty today...good times! 👍

LATE ENTRY: The reason that I don’t appear to be experiencing “good times” in the first pic below is because I was late for usher duty...I missed the memo regarding the change in service times for the summer schedule...therefore, my fault. For the record, I was NOT fired from the usher team for my tardiness. 👍

But Presbyterians are always on time are they not? It is us Catholics who flex the rules and are late at will, its why we have more fun!

Hell yes, I'd say...

I really think that the Speedy is a hugely versatile timepiece and it could be a “dress chrono” without any problems!!

By the way, congratulations for the beautiful pictures...

However, even at Ambassador level functions, there is some leeway if your manners are acceptable. Luckily, those events are few and far between for the likes of me.

Just one Consul level function to my record, and I wore my only watch -- a panda Carrera.

But did anyone care about watches when to enjoy the Consul's acre (and some!) lawn down to a lake with no other houses, roads, or other modern artefacts in view when we had to hold our drink glasses in the paper bags provided in order to venture onto the lawn?

Perhaps drinking out of paper bags was the height of fashion in Montreal in the early '80s?
