Can a boutique offer a price break?

Hi all: Is it tacky or stupid at an Omega boutique to ask for a slight discount when purchasing a new watch? Does a boutique ever offer a price break?

    Thanks!

from what others have discussed here, yes... but it depends on model, OB location and in some caes, the alignment of certain celestial bodies....

In the UK I believe they an only discount if they are an independant boutique. Not entirely certain what that means, but it works for me!

Was offered 15% off on Railmaster Trinity at OB in Aruba in Dec 2018. But when I asked at OB in San Antonio I was met with a firm NO! So, it depends.

The only sure way to find this out is to go ahead and ask for a discount. There is nothing stupid in trying to get a bargain. From my personal experience, my Omega AD has lower prices on slightly older models, e.g., DeVille with cal.2202.

In general, discounts from ADs are more reasonable expectations, the OP asked about OBs... these two operate completely different....

An authorized dealer (AD) is privately owned but has an agreement with a watch brand to sell their watches with a full warranty and service guarantee (Most jewelry stores, Tonneau, car dealerships). They may sell multiple brands in one location.

A brand boutique is owned by the brand and will only sell those watches (Tesla dealership).

Oddly enough I do know of at least one boutique that sells other brands as well (Breitling, IWC and I think Bremont) but they are privately owned. That might just be an exception though.

The devil's in the details, I suppose? Get an offer from an AD--take it to your OB and ask, can you do better than this? If you just ask for a discount , I wouldn't expect them to oblige--and you're paying sales tax too, remember. That can ADD 10% to a price you are trying to negotiate down. Of course, it's not all about the final price, it's also about the service and relationship you expect from the OB over the long haul....

Thanks, Muddler. Do you think in general it’s better to buy from a boutique than an AD, price considerations aside?

It depends on the AD and the OB--how do they treat you when you meet with them? Do they have any in-house watchmakers or does everything they do get shipped off to Omega (which can involve inexorable waits)--though that is not something I'd much worry about if buying a new watch. The bigger decision to consider is buying from a grey market dealer as opposed to AD or OB--which could save you some serious money up front--a thousand or more for a watch like a Speedy. If that doesn't matter to you, I'd work on deciding which AD or OB by revisiting them--sort of like buying a car, do you buy from this dealer or that dealer? In the end you'll rationalize all you want, but will have a good conversation with your gut about it too....

Good luck. Let us know what you do in the end, and do post pics of the watch on your wrist as well...

Thanks, if I pull the trigger, I will post photos!
By the way, the watch I'm thinking of is the 300m 36.25. I don't mind that it's already considered outdated. I like the plain face rather than waves, and I guess the 2500 co-axial movement is okay. The boutique salesperson didn't think that there'd be an 8500 or 8800 coming out soon in a smaller size like this. What do you think?
