@ghce

While you are talking to whoever did the repair, he has also overlooked the fact that one of the two screws that holds the jewels in the balance cock is broken! The shank is there in the balance cock, but the head is missing! I wonder if he even tried to remedy that.

Thanks Doug, hadn't spotted that! words will be exchanged 🙄 Looks like he needs to revisit the balance and the regulation.
I think we are looking at age related issues lol, not the movement.

Oh no! better refresh this thread before it slips off the page 😀

Bought another Omega at auction from a seller that didn't know a lot, admittedly I haven't got it in my hands yet and its being sold as not going.

No movement photo as they cant open it 🤔 and yes I beleive them, so who knows what will turn up.

Seller pics but the dial looks very good but cracked glass lens.

Oh well a third Omega PW for the collection.

Graeme,

The dial is badly cracked!
That was also my impression but after a closer look the cracks seem to extend outside of the dial, on the rehaut. So it could well be only the glass. No other picture from another angle?

Also, the crack between the 4 and 5 appears to extend through the hour hand, so I'm guessing crazily cracked crystal.

Unfortunately only the one photo of the dial.
I am just hoping that it's only a badly cracked glass, it does appear as if the crack between 4 and 5 is apparent over the hour hand, so chance's are that ( fingers crossed) that the dial is intact.

Arrow indicates missing enamel. Minute track disjointed, segments don’t line up. Translation? Badly damaged dial!

Arrived in this afternoon, Doug called it correctly in that there is a small hairline between 3 and 4 however it isn't too obvious in the flesh and the dial is otherwise perfect so I am thinking what broke the glass did the damage to the dial.

I couldn't remove either back or front to get a really good look at the movement or dial but the big plus was that it was running well so took it down to my Watchmaker who likewise couldn't take it apart either, left it with him for him to figure it out and replace glass and service.

I am guessing it's only a nickel case but it appears to be in exceptional condition for its age and going by the lack of easy opening probably not serviced in a good 60 or 70 years.

The PW collection has been growing this last year, whilst some I have had for 40 years the bulk are from the last 18 months.
There are another 4 not shown here as they are either at my Watchmaker (2) or in process of getting other case repairs (2).
I fear that a secondary watch addiction is emerging, from WW to PW.

Pocket watches can overwhelm a collector. I know the feeling.
Nice displays!

Do you have one (or several) favorites? Could you show it or them in large (if not done yet)?

Yep. I too have become infected. Problem is, the wrist watch addiction has not diminished. Being dually afflicted with watches is a terrible plight when other collecting afflictions also compete.

I only started wearing wrist watches when I became a teacher a little over a decade ago. Up until then I was strictly a pocketwatch guy. At heart I still am, because I only own twelve or so wrist watches and even the best of them don't inspire me like pocket watches do.

I haven't posted this one over here yet, and now that I am done with it, other than a good servicing, here is my budget Sangamo Special from 1900. All in, I have about $250 in this watch. That's including a new dial and case. The original dial/case are in the last couple of photos. Though, I do not believe that case is the original one but a later cheap replacement. While the dial should have Arabic numerals for a 1900 railroad watches I consider both it and the Crescent silver case to be period correct parts.

Show my favourite(s)! Where should I start? I collect Hamilton, Waltham, Elgin, Illinois, E. Howard, Keystone Howard, Omega, Brandt, and miscellaneous other. My”current” favourite is almost always my most recent acquisition.
