Considering a birth-year watch within the next year and as such have been deep-diving YouTube + The Lord Google for Omegas from 1963. Can I see what forum members here have from the year 1963?
Yeesh, I put this in the wrong sub-forum... apologies. Could a Mod/Admin re-home this over to Vintage?
1963 can be a very expensive year for Omega, even more so for Rolex. It all comes down to your budget of course
Below is a thread showing a handful of watches from this year. You'll find in that thread that it can be quite pricey, as @JwRosenthal stated- depending on what you are looking for. https://omegaforums.net/threads/watches-from-the-year-1963.132070/ What exactly are you looking for? Tool or dress watch?
No joking ;-) just looking... for now, both dress and tool. More window shopping than anything else while trying to educate myself on the different calibres and designs offered.
I think we already have threads from every year. https://omegaforums.net/threads/watches-from-the-year-1963.132070/
Care to expand on this? Does 1963 command higher prices in relation to the years immediately before and after?
This is a banging watch IMO, if I hadn't purchased so many watches this year I would have snapped it up!
He sold another 1963 Air-King last year that had a rivet bracelet and was in similar condition. I am still kicking myself over that one.
It’s the era not year specific. SM300’s, Speedy’s and Connie’s from this period tend to be among the most valuable. Not your fault you were born during the hot-hot-hot period of sport watchmaking. Birthyears of ‘69-‘72 (me) get some groovy options (hello Speedy MkII) that aren’t as eye watering for prices, but we lose the Classic Connie’s (although I do love my C-case). All that said, there are some awesome Seamasters and Geneve’s around ‘63 in the Omega lineup that won’t cost you a mortgage payment. If you widen the field from Omega (and steer waaaaay clear of Rolex divers/chronos), there are some awesome values out there from ‘63 from brands like Zodiac, Bulova, JLC, UG, Hamilton, Longines, Tissot, etc. Getting the year nailed is hard for many (Bulova did use a date code on their watches which makes it very easy) but there are some visual cues when you get to know the watches that can help narrow the range. Collecting birth year watches can be a very fun treasure hunt…depending on year you were born. ‘77-late 80’s….not much out there for those guys unless you like gold plated quartz poop. I should also say, if money isn’t an object, then you are in the prime year for some of the coolest watches on the planet.
I've never bought into the birth year thing, just a huge fan of midcentury/modern design in general. I go fishing for the best condition and never sweat the exact year. Here are my '63 Seamaster, '66 KSK, and recently sold '69 Geneve:
@SC1 nice 1963 Seamaster for sale on this site, Omega bracelet, serviced, quite attractive IMHO. I already have a 165.001 so not for me: https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-seamaster-ref-166-009-serviced-1-100.139301/
