·Another offer from my personal collection. This S. Philly "Superautomatic" is a proper chonky tool-watch, rated to 20 Atmos, 38mm w/o crown, and an ETA 2772. Dates to approx. 1970. Keeping quite good time.
Comes in the classic "submarine case" seen on many dive watches from the period. I believe the OGs here are the Seiko 62mas, the Wittnauer 4000, and the Technos Sky Diver, though there are a whole host of excellent brands that used this case and configuration (e.g. Elgin, Helbros, Le Cheminant, and Sandoz, to name but a few). It clocks in at a hefty 38mm w/19mm lugs. Suffice to say, there's no forgetting that you're wearing a tool-watch with this chunk of steel on your wrist.
Movement is the ETA 2772, very clean, running strong and keeping good time. Date rolls over as expected and QS function works properly (10-1). Service history unknown (but relatively recent, but the looks of the movement and the condition of the gasket).
The lovely silver-white sunburst dial is in terrific shape, as are the applied metal indices and batons, both of which are finely bevelled. Original lume shows appropriate patina and low luminosity as befitting a watch that's 50+ years old. Case is sharp, with lettering deep and legible. Back shows a minimal amount of honest wear.
The orange sweep is a brilliant colour pop, similar to the kind seen on Omega Geneve Admiralties from the same period.
S. Philly (Philly Shoeney ltd.) is another ghost brand. Established as an importer and assembler of Swiss watches (to avoid the import duties on bringing them in fully-fledged) in Tel Aviv in 1970, it operated for a few years before vanishing into the date wheel of time.
Watch comes on the black Zulu as pictured, and comes with the brown blacksmith's strap as well. Swap outs possible on request, though I think both suit the piece nicely.
$650 firm + postage. Ships to US, UK, Europe. Other regions possible. FYI, I could only find one other comparable S. Philly Superautomatic for sale, which was on C24. They were asking $950, but we all know how they operate :/
I have been selling, buying, and trading on OF for about a decade, always to the full satisfaction of all involved. Testimonials here:
