So this is what I woke up to this morning. I live in the Bay Area and the smoke is at a high altitude and has mixed with the morning fog creating this murky yellow. These photos don't do it justice but I wanted to share. All of these were taken before 10 in the morning. To anyone in areas across the states in a fire zone, stay safe.

I live in SoCal and that’s what my skies look like. It was supposed to be 106 yesterday but the smoke was so thick it topped out at 75.

My god it is bad here in far Northern Coastal California. It is almost 10am and still dark! To be honest I am feeling a little freaked out.

Go grab some hepa filters for the house before they are gone.

Good idea! We have a big hepa filter on our house and I just turned on the system to clear things up.

My phone makes it just look sorta gray in most photos but yeah, still legit dark out at 10:15am:

Snow is a pain, sure, but - I’m sorry - it’s better than not being able to breathe between the end of August and the beginning of October every year. Can’t wait to head back east.

Might have to if it gets worse. But oddly enough the air quality do us according to the EPA is not at a dangerous level. It is currently moderate and the particulate level is low. All the ash is high up. A week ago it was bad where you a mask and closing all windows was necessary.

Looks terrible too. You guys north have it rough too because it's smoke from california fires and the fires in oregon are blowing down here. Can't believe they are evacuating Medford.

It has been very bad in Colorado also, but we have been getting a pretty good dump of snow yesterday and today, with a 50 degree temperature drop (F) so hopefully that will help.

There's actually several different fires burning across the state. The fire you're talking about is in southern California. For me, I'm actually far from the fires but the smoke is covering much it the state. There was even ash on my car this morning.

That’s the one close to me. I’m still quite a distance from it but getting a steady “rain” of ash.

These are from August 15, about 20 miles east of of me (Pasadena).

Now there is a new (Sunday) much larger fire in the same area, not so pretty this time yellow murky ash filled air with Santa Ana winds predicted for later today. 😲

It's truly a terrible year. For the fires - we are in the bay and live in the hills and when we get the warnings it's always really stressful for us. Once the lightning hit we actually evacuated with all our animals and are now in Nashville. From our understanding, fire season doesn't usually even get to it's height until around now- October. The lightning was just a freak occurrence. Really sad and hope everyone will be safe and help each other in these times. If any of you in California need N95 we have a few extra (we got them the last two fire seasons so have some left over).

Yup, bad here too (Santa Cruz to Salinas). It was darker at 09:00 than at 07:00 today.
Picture is from our farm from about a week ago, the River Fire, now contained. Our Lightning Complex fire in Santa Cruz is still smoking.

The fires causing the strange skies in northern CA are in Oregon apparently - that's why the ash is high up in the atmosphere and it looks like this rather than smelling smoky. When we have the smoke here, the day is slightly hazy but very smelly.

For now, moving back to New York next week. I could use some fresh air... 🙄

I’m in San Francisco and when I woke up, I thought it was 5 AM. Then I looked at my clock and it said it was 8 AM. 😲

Welcome to 2020. ::facepalm1::

Although the sun is blotted out by the smoke, the air quality is Moderate. Apparently, the smoke is mostly high elevation. You all can check your air quality in the USA at:
