I think your problem may be that the damage was quite obvious in the listing.
Dan, you don’t think that he has a case based upon the fact that this was an undisclosed franken? It’s certainly not a vintage Geneve as represented in the listing.

OMG that watch is a mess. Stand your ground and go for a return as it is not fit for purpose.

Thanks Dan. Good points.

I had thought that Euro 850 for a gold Omega watch sounded cheap. I think I should probably let it all go, and move on with a note to be less greedy and more cautious in future. A learning experience!
Noob tax paid.

Sure, maybe he does, and eBay usually sides with the buyer. However, the franken issue seems pretty obscure for eBay customer service. I definitely think he should try to return it.

I agree. I’d fight for a refund.

Did you, by any chance, use PayPal to pay the seller? If you did you should be able to get your money back through them if Ebay side's with the seller.

Ebay have awarded a return and refund to me. I'll foot the return postage costs.

I think the bad thing was that the seller said to ebay that I was trying to claim a refund by using photos of another damaged watch. This really shocked me and feels so deliberate, bold-faced and wrong.

The good thing is - I really enjoyed learning and chatting here on OF.

Thank you!!

Oh dear! I've also found that I really like Rancheros!

Oh no! I might have to look for a 'panna' - white one!!

Do you think my wife will allow me to blame gbesq for being a bad influence by showing me his fabulous black dial Ranchero? I'm going to have to start living off beans for a while to build up funds.....

I don’t think that you’re quite ready yet to go Ranchero shopping. There isn’t an Omega model that has more redials, relumes, wrong hands, frankens and outright frauds. And you will pay dearly for a good one. 😲

Uh oh!

They look so very fine.

What am I going to do?? I've already started saving up and am on my cheap bean diet.

@Fleur_the_rabbit Why did'nt you post it here before buying? I recall you posted some other watches with issues in another thread? Maybe it's better to post things here before buying or pm some members. It could save you some money. And you will get a nice watch.

By the way, sorry to hear about this seller. Sadly there are some dubious sellers in this world.

I've not bought yet! That last one was a pic from an ebay offering. I thought it looked lovely, but I've not much confidence to buy.

Yes, I'd be delighted by any guidance that can be offered on buying a Ranchero.

I would start with something a bit less ambitious than a Ranchero. Do yourself a favor and stick to the private watch sales forum on OF. Good quality watches at fair prices come up for sale all the time. With a little patience, you’re bound to find something that you’ll like and be proud to wear.

Gbesq - what do you think of this?

I think this might be the Ollie on the forum here?

I think that you need to slow down. Please think about the last watch that you bought that was a disaster. You were fortunate to be able to return it for a refund. I don’t mean to be harsh, but did you learn nothing from that experience? What do you actually know about Rancheros other than that you like them? Have you read a single article about the model? Do you know the difference between a 2990 and a 2996? Are you fully educated about the potential dangers of a watch with radium lume? Can you spot a repainted dial? Wrong hands? Relumed indices? If you don’t know the answers to these questions, you shouldn’t be shopping for this model. Knowledge and experience will reward you with good vintage purchases. Lack of both and rushing will have the opposite effect. Experienced OF members can offer opinions, but they can’t - and shouldn’t - educate you on the vintage watch market. You have to do that for yourself and it’s not something that can be mastered in a matter of days. I don’t mean to sound preachy - would just prefer not to see you taken advantage of - again.

Thanks for your advice Gbesq. Hard to hear, but I know you're right.

I will learn the difference between 2990 and 2996. I'm considering buying a G-counter (any suggestions?). I'm working on spotting re-painted dials. I've read the OF on lume. But, yes, it's all a project; more knowledge needed. It's also part of the appreciation for these historical pieces.
