Buying without an Extract

Hi everyone,

Now that the EOAs are temporarily unavailable, how much pause does it give you to buy say a vintage speedmaster from a dealer without an extract? For example, everything seems to check out in terms of period correct parts, and the movement is in the correct range. The only thing missing is the extract. There is always a bit of a gamble, but is it a deal breaker?

An extract adds very little other than confirming the movement matches the case ref and the country of delivery.

The extracts don't warrant that the anything, it's or was a nice piece of paper stating that based on a given moment's serial number was inside certain case form an Omega's model line. And not even the movement, just the part where the serial number was stamped. So you cold buy a vintage Speedmaster with an EoA, but only one part is checked as correct for period and model.

It's way more important to perform the due diligence analyzing the watch as a whole, there are a lot of information in the web, plus some books focus in specific models.

Buying a vintage watch is not an easy task, but there is where the fun part reside.

Happy hunt.
