My dads a huge space buff and sold his Omega Speedmaster Professional and always regretted selling it. So now, I need advice. I can either buy this watch https://imgur.com/gallery/NRuxYWr which is running about 8 seconds fast for a little over 3k, or I can buy this one from crown and caliber for 3600- https://www.crownandcaliber.com/pro...ssional-moonwatch-3570-50-00-10-10-ome-t8x795 what would you guys do? The private seller is trusted and I’m not too worried about genuine parts or whatever but I’m not sure if crown and caliber would be the way to go for this watch. Just looking for some second opinions .

I paid $3380.00 for a speedy pro from jomashop right before xmas last year using coupon codes. Just saying you could go brand new and get the suitcase for less than the C&C one. Shop around.

Model 311.30.42.30.01.005 if you wanna look up specs It's the current pro with hesalite. I just looked at jomashop now and it's a good chunk of change more. My point is shop around and if you go grey, wait for sales. Somewhere around black friday I seen the best price after about 4 months of searching and I used a coupon code.

Would you not consider box and papers 3570.50.00 for 3k a decent price though, especially for that condition ?

I'm the guy who walks into a bike shop to buy a $1k mountain bike and sees another bike for only 500 more and I talk myself into spending the extra. An hour later I walk out spending $3k for a bike........ my rambling point is I'd personally just spend the extra and go new but that's me.

Honestly since I'm not in the market for a speedy I have no idea what they are going for used. I just seen the prices you posted and commented because I bought new for less (even if that means you might have to wait for sales but that season is coming)

Reach out to @Kringkily and ask what a new one will cost. If he can source one it will come with full Omega warranty.

Looks like he recently sold a couple. If the OP wants to get a sense of the market he can just search the dealer sales forum.

I think the 5 year warranty is worth the slight bump in price. Just so you know, the crown and caliber one looks to be from around 1999 based on the bracelet. I think I remember that C&C doesn’t service watches unless they are running badly

Both of the watches you showed have almost identical serial numbers, and the second has a warranty card that indicates a 2002 date.

Haha yeah, I’ve actually worked with c&c a little a few years ago, and mentioned that a lot of those dates were off, and they realized and changed them. But I can see how it’s hard for a company that deals with so many different types of watches to notice slight variations in the bracelet. It’s possible that the date is correct, but that means that that bracelet isn’t original to the watch.

Never trust dates from auction houses or second hand watch sellers.....they are often wildly inaccurate. And anytime you buy used you run the chance of mismatched parts, buggered up repairs, papers and boxes that aren't correct, etc. If you are price constrained look for one on OF (new or used). C&C and other places can be good sources, or not. It's a hit or miss.

Values for gently used, current-model Speedmaster Professional units seem to be climbing steadily. This is especially true of any that were purchased between July of 2018 and when they actually announced the warranty extension because those units were grandfathered in (mine included, thank God).

But I must voice my support like the others: if you spend enough time (a month or two from now) searching, you will have saved enough to just buy a new one with the full kit and warranty. You could even arrange to have dad go to the boutique or AD and just be like "hey Dad since we're here let's take a look in the Omega shop and see what there is to see." Then you could have the staff encourage him to try it on... Watch him light up... Then tell him it's his.

    Would be priceless!

If you are going to buy used, why not buy one that is a year or two old? I suspect same price as ones you posted, but won't need service for a few years. And you can get the huge Speedmaster box. A friend bought a like new with big box last week for $3k.

That is a cool gift to get your Dad. Awesome.

Dang, I stopped getting notifications from this thread and ended up buying a 311 used from 2016 bought from an omega boutique for 3500. Live and learn I suppose :(

That's still not bad, but a brand new one with big box and warranty at www.chitownwatch.com is $4300 on bracelet.
