Not sure I would have expected any different answer. It is not a boutique run by Omega -- the distributors likely send what the Exchange buyers order.
Yep. It was a long shot. I had already asked AAFES if they planned on getting the new watches or if I could order through them. No and no. The Omega request was more of a hail mary.
The impression I get is that AAFES sells what they can get their hands on, rather than the more limited production. I suspect the distributors would not send AAFES anything they requested but that AAFES gets what they have a lot of in inventory.
But it's a guess. I hope that in a few years when production is normalized (no more covid restrictions and the backlogs are gone) we might be able to get a speedmaster again, at least the moonwatch version.
I check the AAFES site regularly. They usually have the some of the current Seamasters (black, blue, grey, and white dials) and a couple models of Planet Oceans in stock. $3600 is pretty nice for a Seamaster when they are on sale.
I bought a Speedmaster from aafes and it was in the box with all the trimmings. Totally legit. If you have access to the PX then getting omegas through them is a no brainer. I just wish I could score Rolex GMTs like in the old days 😜
The white dial seamasters are out of stock now (as are speedmasters) but I'm hoping they are back for the annual 30% off sale.
