Hi OF,

I have a chance to purchase a Rolex gmt 16750, from 1986 as full set with box and papers, 13 links on the watch. Clasp code I9. Bucklets dated 1984.

As part of the deal seller willing to take trade in my 16610T from 2006 Z series, full set plus 9k euro in cash. How it sounds to you?

Is it seems fair deal? (I've spotted some gloss dials same period gmt in a range of 15-18k, of course you'll never know the history of them)

I did a few pictures of the watch and would highly appreciate some thoughts from experienced members.

Also I have video of the watch which I could share through pm.

Main things I’m looking to find is originality of the 16750 is it original bezel insert or service replacement? Watch was serviced at 1997 by Rolex, service card provided. Also at 2012 main spring and seals was replaced by Rolex qualified watchmaker, email with the quote of £150 available. I bought a couple watches from the owner before, but as it says always do your homework before you pull the trigger also I’m not an expert in vintage stuff.

Would you go for that trade guys? If not what's your top north for the GMT?

Thanks in advance and looking forward to hear your opinion!

And here a few pics of mine 16610.

As a 16610 owner, not a chance would I take such a beating on that kind of trade. When I bought my 16610 (in 2001 or so), they cost almost the same as a GMT. I fully understand the desirability of the 16750, but a 9k delta would not sit with me.

That said, it's your deal. If you want the 16750 and don't feel like you are getting bent over, go for it. I'm sure I've been on the loosing end of watch deals in the past. It kind of comes with the turf in this hobby.

First of all , the GMT is NOT a full set, it’s missing the most important component which is the warranty paper. So, you’re dealing for a watch that at its best is worth around $13K USD. The math on this upside down, I’d run from this deal. I don’t care how original the watch is, it’s not worth giving up a $10K sub plus $10K in cash, that’s robbery.

Be patient and you’ll find a nice 16750 at the right price.

Deal is still upside down, the GMT is now worth around $15-16K.

For the record, the case doesn’t look great, the crown guards are too rounded and the insert is a service replacement.

Even if this were a matte dialed 16750 in comparable condition, I wouldn’t say the delta would be that wide- maybe $3-4k.
That red and blue bezel can dazzle, but we gotta keep a cool head when we are dealing with this kind of money.

Definately not 9K! Also, would opt for a matt dial version if possible, or a later generation gmt if WGS is your preference.

The deal may be very tempting to you , but it really isn't a good deal . You will definitely be paying out more than you need to for the GMT .

Any chance those hands are replacements?

I thought about that as well, but it’s not that uncommon for the hands to age differently than the lume. I have handled numerous Glossy 750’s in the 8.6-8.7m range with slightly lighter hands.

Here is my unpolished 8.6m serial, with perfectly matching hands. one of my favorite watches.

Me too, but if possible I'd still want to check with a UV lamp before purchasing.

She's a beauty!!

I agree, I would say in 50% of cases you are going to find differently aged hands due to different suppliers for hands and dials: of course finding matching hands is always a plus, like in your superb example.

So you're giving up a more durable and full set Rolex PLUS 9k EURO for a polished full set 16570? If you have 9k euro to spare, get a 16710 or a polar GMT 16570! Or better yet, keep your sub and wait for a better 16750. Personally, I could care less about box and papers. Your sub and 9k euro is basically 20k+ and the 16750 is <15k. 5k difference... hell nah

Simple, Run

Nothing is stopping you from finding this GMT in the future.

They aren’t that uncommon.
