Looking to buy my first Speedmaster. Found one on eBay that looks good to me and seller says it’s unpolished. Was wondering if anyone could confirm that this watch looks good and legit, thank you.

Also the watch comes with box, operating manual, and warranty card which does help me some.

not correct.

there were hesalite speedies with sapphire caseback, 1863 movement and tritium dial. They're quite rare, because of this combination was manufactured for one year only. After that tritium dial was changed to luminova, but model number didn't changed and was the same 3572. Speedmasters with sapphire crystal have model number 3573, but these were introduced some years later.

OP posted hesalite speedie with 863 movement and that has model number 3592, manufactured until 1996-7.

yes. yellow plated movement is tell tale sign of 863 movement that came in 3592. correct movement for 3572 is 1863 - rhodium (white) plated.

This is what the seller relayed to me, how likely would this be?

Maybe I have misunderstood something you have said and I am posting this in error, but I’m not sure the 863 movement is the only evidence to identify a 3592 over a 3572.

Here is a 3572 with the 863 movement and an extract. Production date of August 1996.

For the OP- you mention the listing comes with the original warranty card. It is possible the seller typed the incorrect reference in error. If the listing doesn’t show the card in its entirety, revealing the reference, you can always ask for a photo of that, which would resolve this.

Warranty card is blank unfortunately but I did do some research and this seems like a transitional model that is a 3572 with an 863 movement. There were many threads on this forum covering how some 3572s came with this movement. Apparently its fairly uncommon and it actually makes me like the watch a little more so I think I'm going to go ahead and purchase!

Honestly this would be first legit 3572 with 863 I've seen. Could be an error from Omega 😀

From Moonwatch Only I got impression that model 3572 started with introduction of 1863 caliber and year later dial was changed from Tritium to Luminova.

When I searched for my 3572 I saw a a lot watches that were presented as 3572 with 863 movement. So, if this is really rare transitional model, why there are at least 5 times more 3572 with 863 than tritium dial 3572 with 1863?

😀

p.s. in my view majority of them are just misrepresented 3592.

Here is some more information I was able to find

https://omegaforums.net/threads/is-this-really-a-3572-50.127497/

Again this is my first Speedmaster so I may be incorrect or naïve but to me it looks like some people here own similar makes and models. Definitely interesting though, during the months I spent researching what Speedmaster model I wanted I didn't come across this at all.

I have the same model: 3572.50 with 863 gold movement, tritium dial, and sapphire caseback. From 1997. My s/n is about 10K higher than this one. It's a great watch -- my favorite.

The only note I'll make on the watch offered is that it looks like the hands have been replaced with Superluminova, if that matters to you. (mine, too.)

Seems cal. 863 3572.50s are not as rare as once thought. I learn something new on OF everyday!
