Lovely story, pictures, niece, watch and strap of course 👍
Guess I gave up the watch for a good cause, will now need to try a double wrap strap on mine —it’s about the only watch on which I don’t have one at this stage 😜

I like the story very much, not often the case that young people appreciate such old watches. My daughter only looks at smartwatches, fitnesstrackers and 🙄 when a new old arrival comes to town, when I'm happy with that new purchase, sitting on the sofa and winding it up and look at it the whole evening. So I hope she will change her mind one day and perhaps will wear my old Longines when I'm no more able to do it.

This is about the most adorable story ever. @LesXL is so thoughtful and sweet, plus the supporting cast @Syrte, @imfagent449 and others on the forum. I think you all may have hooked one from the next generation.

Uncle, is that you?? 😁 Thank you for sharing the entirety of this journey. It was really neat to go through it with you and see the final outcome. 👍

Great thread @LesXL, I've enjoyed it since the start.

👍

(PS: To @Syrte, please forgive us ordinary Aussies for the submarine fiasco, I didn't cancel it, must have been politicians again!)

Thank you, and I am lucky to have a very open-minded Goddaughter. She is very much into fashion, accessories, and now watches 😀

Maybe if the watch name sounds like Cartier would your daughter be more interested :-D I can tell you that my goddaughter surely knew those watches ;-)

I think she is, and even better, a whole new topic of conversation and sharing between me and her.

This must be my reward for letting you have this baby, another one showed up — thanks to a lovely lady collector who knows I have a bit of hankering for those 👍

That's lovely! I really like the patina on that one 😀
Curious to see where was that piece sold. I notice a very colour conservative strap 😀) ... but matches perfectly the dial !

Indeed not my usual strap type at all, I usually dislike lizard, but the lovely seller sent it on the watch, and it’s a high quality, chunky and glossy texture so I will probably keep it. I was never a particular fan of Hirsch straps, always found them too standard and too padded, but this one is raising my level of appreciation a lot.
Might take a while alas until I get around to getting an extract, I don’t know if others are observing the same in other countries where vaccination is available, but it seems everything since May has restarted at breakneck pace.

Really cool project and two beautiful watches.

this is where I become a total anorak, the photo of the watch on the plane looks like a LUXAIR Q400… I really need to get a life away from aircraft.

I'm glad that this gift was well received. It is exactly what I was hoping for.

The strap is really wonderful too.
