Broken mainspring? Speedmaster 311

I have a Speedmaster (311.30.42.30.01.005, 8 years old, never serviced) which this morning sort of went “ping” as I was winding it this morning, and now doesn’t have any resistance to the wind and the wind just keeps going. It’s currently still ticking.

I hope I’ve explained that

Any idea on the issue? Any idea on the cost of repair?

Thanks, internet!

Classic symptom of a broken mainspring. A simple solution on a simple three-hand manual winder, but not so simple on a manual wind chronograph, unfortunately! The watch has to be dismantled, entirely. Cost? How high is UP? Depends on where you live. But a minimum of $300 to $400. To a maximum of about $800 to $900 if you have Omega do it. If your help locally is limited, you may have to mail it somewhere. Tell us your general location, and maybe we can recommend someone.

Richard, sorry to hear about your mainspring issue. The same thing happened to me with my daily wear.

The mainspring cost ~$1000 USD at the Omega botique as Omega completed a full service. The turn-around time was about 12 weeks and I do not believe they had to ship my watch out of the US. I am thinking your turn-around time would be similar depending on what other service the OB would feel nessary.

The bright side is that your watch will come back working optimally. Best wishes.

Please have it fully serviced and don’t just find someone to replace the mainspring. It’s well past time for a service anyway.

No concern there. He won’t find a shop who’ll take the thing apart to change the mainspring, re-assemble it, guarantee it, and charge only for the mainspring!
