I recently found this watch at a church sale and was wondering if it would be worth having it serviced and a new crystal and crown added. I took it to a watchmaker and he said he could service it and put a crystal and crown on it but he didn’t know if it would be worth it. So I have a couple of questions: 1. would it be worth the service and adding the crystal and crown if the crown is not original? 2. Is it possible to find an original crown and stem for this watch? 3. Is it possible to find the inner bezel piece that came on this watch? I appreciate any info that can be passed along about this watch.

That's only a question you can answer. What does the watch mean to you? Is it important enough to fix? If it were mine, I would fix it.

I believe your watchmaker is suggesting that this might not be a legitimate Breitling? It has a ASchild 984 movement (https://ranfft.org/caliber/1089-AS-984).

Also, watches of that 'style' tend to have the little pointer inside the crystal on a rotating bezel, right? I don't see one here.

He said it was legitimate. You can see where the pointer was but it looks like it broke off.

I actually have been looking around a while (an AS movement is somewhat rare in 'nicer' watches, as it was for most of history a 'budget' movement maker), it took me a bit to find a similar watch with any sort of veracity to the listing, but I found this:

@Vanallard seems to have owned a very similar with with the same movement, so might be able to give more details.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any insight to share. Mine was fully operational when I purchased it and my watchmaker didn’t replace any parts AFAIK.
