I think it looks fantastic based on the images on Omegas website. However, I'll reserve judgement until I see a few more photos. Look how good Omegas image of the FOIS looks:

In reality it looks sterile and a bit flat. I'm not a fan of sapphire crystals, I feel like you lose a bit of the magic with them.

If luminova aged like tritium does, I might agree with you. Personally I have no issues with coloured lume.
I differentiate between "colored lume" and "faux patina." This watch falls into the latter category for me.

There is a slight difference, for sure, though I often get annoyed when people call anything with a tint "fauxtina or faux patina." As @Archer astutely (as always) pointed out, tritium was tinted from the very beginning! There were no stark white indices back in the 60's-90's, so it's always struck me as missing the point for people to say the approach with the FOIS is the way it should always be done. To me, colored Luminova at least adds warmth to the dial and is a happy medium between the tritium and Luminova eras (if done tastefully). I think it's a great complement on this one and will age very nicely (not literally, since Luminova will stay the same over time).

The newest Bond Seamaster, on the other hand, is one where the fauxtina bashing was justified.

Crazy price. Idiot price. What interest in a new 321 compared to a real one you can get for much less, with more charm!...
A price of a nice limited edition, but not limited... Don't understand Omega policy...

Are the guys paying 100 pct premiums for steel Daytonas and steel pateks paying that much because of the movement? Could they even say what the movements are?

Aren't the guys who care about the movements the vintage guys?

It's these types of embarrassing gimmicks you will never find Rolex (the superior brand of the 2) pulling off. These days, modern Omega is truly fleecing collectors and ripping them a new one.

The discussion started with someone telling that the 60th anniversary and FOIS had funky bevels. I asked several times why he/she thought they were funky. That’s all. The rest is irrelevant.

Thing is several people took the time to patiently explain the differences in straight lug bevels and you repeatedly stated that it hadn't been explained to your satisfaction. Each generation of straight lug Speedmaster has substantially different lugs making it a valid topic for discussion IMO. The FOIS and Trilogy lugs had very wide bevels, unlike any Ed White, the -64 variant of which had none. This new watch mirrors the -64 and is unlike the FOIS and Trilogy in this respect. The funky comment was I believe a reference to suspicions that the lugs on those latter 2 were over exaggerated vs the watches they were based on. We can keep discussing it if it helps.

Whereas a plastic fantastic 'Grail' is worth every penny of the £20k dealers are asking. Jog on.

Perhaps NASA will discontinue the association with the classic moonwatch going forward, but they haven't yet.

Aw man! Where's the romance in that?

I know...many people do choose to see it as "faux" but really this is just a mindset that people have. Way back when JLC first used it I thought the same way, but have let that idea go...and now it's just coloured lume. I realize it doesn't have the same outrage potential as calling it "faux" though...

I agree that such faux-trage is badly misplaced. I was sceptical of it on a modern Sinn I briefly owned, but it makes perfect sense on the Trilogies, this new 321-based offering, and other vintage-inspired pieces. No more "faux" than a Naiad crown, signed crystal or other touches, IMO.

I sincerely hope that NASA retains the classic mechanical moonwatch in some official capacity for use in the Artemis program. It would just be too cool for words. With the awareness of the anniversaries of the Apollo landings, any connection to the traditional equipment of a half century ago would be romantic indeed.

Pie in sky the question - If you were offered one of the first ones would you take the gamble and buy it in the hope it would be worth more than RRP? I'm not sure I'm really not 😕😕

This is quite interesting. From my experience here in the UK, official boutiques don't take deposits for LEs because they can't guarantee if they can fulfil the order and they don't want to hold onto your money for too long, as one boutique manager explained to me. ADs on the other hand will take deposits so I've done as in the past.

Yes as far as I know in the UK the OB's just log your interest, once they have details of the numbers coming in on the watch you are waiting on they contact you, if you want to proceed you pay a deposit or you back away. And, I believe that you can still back out when the watch arrives should you change your mind, the deposit is fully refundable.

Initially, the new 321will increase above RRP simply because it is new and lots of people will want one, there will also be people who will be prepared to pay over the odds to have something new, something that no one else has got. However, the question of whether that increase can be sustained long term, is very difficult to answer.

This Speedmaster is better than many of the limited editions we've seen. One supposes that investment potential is an important facet of acquiring watches such as this one and perhaps the topic deserves speculative discussion, but I'm just not going to purchase watches as investments. If I turn loose of bigger money for any watch purchase it'll still be because I like it and want to send it down the black hole that is the Home For Wayward Watches, never to return.

I've ordered mine already.
Having a new (robust) 321 that I can wear every day is fantastic for a Speedmaster watch nerd.
My vintage pieces are worn with much care, they have acquired their patina over time but are fragile and I hate to trash them.

Sorry for going OT, but I always thought that Buzz Aldrin wore a 105.012?
Yes, Aldrin wore a 105.012, making it the first watch worn on an EVA on the moon as Neil’s 105.012 stayed in the LEM. Cernan took TWO watches with him on Apollo 17: a 105.003 on a JB which stayed in the LEM at all times as the JB was not suitable for the EVA and a 105.012 which is seen on all the EVA photographs of him during the extended moon stay of Apollo 17. So the only known EVA moon references are 105.012 and 145.012.

I think the execution on this is really good. But, for the money, I agree with the sentiment that I'd rather have a vintage 321 in nice shape.
