i don't see why anything in omega's history says these watches will trade at 50%+ premiums to MSRP

its taken rolex (and patek) decades and decades to make their brands what they are today and every other watch company wants to be them--if it were just a matter of releasing a steel chronograph and limiting supply there would be far more examples of new watches above MSRP than patek and rolex SS models

i just don't think its that easy or that omega have the client base for it. but we shall see!
well said! Mind you current moonwatch is close to a third of that price!

Hmmm, I'm sure its been discussed a lot on here before so better people will need to input for sure, here is a serial and reference number list of watches used by NASA -

Sorry for going OT, but I always thought that Buzz Aldrin wore a 105.012?

Doubt NASA will go with a mechanical watch. I have seen a lot of astronauts wearing a G-Shock on the ISS. Technically speaking a digital watch makes more sense. I expected to see the Approved by NASA insignia on this speedy to be honest. Wont be surprised if its absent from the standard watch coming out soon too.
IIRC, the standard mechanical Speedy is still issued by NASA as an externally worn accessory on the astronauts' spacesuits. They can wear whatever they want on their wrists under their gloves, and I think the X-33 is the most popular option. Perhaps NASA will discontinue the association with the classic moonwatch going forward, but they haven't yet.

No mention of the box on this one so far...

It ships in a 1:50 scale model of the factory, carefully constructed from toothpicks, mud, and the spittle of Swatch group trainees.

You access the watch by removing the roof, and the floors, one by one, until you reach the basement, where your watch rests on a custom made "speedmaster recliner", cast in stainless steel, and upholstered in a genetically engineered recreation of Louis Brandt's foreskin.

I like it - it’s also making my Apollo 11 50th look good value.

11k in the U.K.? Christ....do you think they’d make me one with the 3861 in for 7?

we have no idea whether this watch is overpriced or not. 6 people putting their name down at one AD is purely anecdotal information that doesn't tell us anything

my man, this entire thread is an anecdotal exercise - don’t act like I went out of bounds by adding my 2c

Not until the months and years after these watches go wild could anyone add anything but anecdotal/opinion

... which is why the remainder of your response is also anecdotal/opinion

But the thing you DIDN’T say is whether you think omega will sell all of these units at MSRP?

( if post-sale they trade in the secondary market below MSRP, that’s not quite here or there)

Just bought the regular sapphire sandwich and felt stupid when reading this but with this price I am fine. It looks very nice.

It seriously detracts for me. Patina should be earned by long ownership, not bought.

If luminova aged like tritium does, I might agree with you. Personally I have no issues with coloured lume.

At 13k chf, i hope the OB will have one in flesh for viewing before pulling the trigger...for now i am happy with my jap racing and Ap8 dsotm... ok, they dont have the pedigree of the 321 but to me the dials certainly look more interesting.

One of the OBs I deal with called earlier to see if I wanted to be put on their list for one. No deposit required, nothing to lose, so why not eh. Let's see how long it'll take for them to call me back on one.

Wonderfully executed by Omega, definitely will be a home run for them. Meanwhile, I'd buy the vintage Ed White @kov has for sale in the private sales forum (recently withdrawn but probably still available via PM) in a heartbeat over the new one. In a pure heads-up battle between vintage Ed White vs Modern Ed White, where the price point is similar, I'd pick vintage every time, but I can definitely see the appeal of this modern execution to the new school group of high-end watch buyers. If these pieces get the Rolex treatment from Omega (i.e. barely a trickle coming about of the factory to create more demand) then resale figures will probably go up, which might drive vintage up a bit as well to match. Should be interesting to observe.

I was just contacted by my OB. 50% deposit required. Need to talk to my wife!

This is quite interesting. From my experience here in the UK, official boutiques don't take deposits for LEs because they can't guarantee if they can fulfil the order and they don't want to hold onto your money for too long, as one boutique manager explained to me. ADs on the other hand will take deposits so I've done as in the past.

Interesting, at the same price point, I'd go for the new one. Moot point as they're both out of my league.

As someone who doesn't envision ever realistically having the means to amass a "proper" collection of vintage pieces and LEs, this one isn't stirring enough "want" in me to get excited about. I'm happy with my FOIS and might consider an 1861 .005 at some point, but there are lots of other watches I'd like to own first (see also: 'What do you want in 2020' thread). At this price I'd go authentic vintage 99 times out of 100. Second choice would be a FOIS + hand-swap + bracelet and still have money left to put gas in the tank.

Crazy price. Idiot price. What interest in a new 321 compared to a real one you can get for much less, with more charm!...
A price of a nice limited edition, but not limited... Don't understand Omega policy...

I visited 2 dealers this evening and neither knew about this 321 EW release, so after a friendly talk and a look through the official website I went on the list as numero uno, what that means in real world terms who knows, I might get an early one or never get a call?

Without sounding patronising I had to tell them about this watch, I also told them it was 2000 per year worldwide and when I said that to one dealer you could see the cogs were turning, he then said we may only get 5 or 6 at most per year within the whole group and assured me I would be the first, I'll believe when the phone goes but until then at least I'm in with a shout..

Perhaps you need to define "funky"?

Top image is my 64, bottom image is a 65, see the difference in the top of the lugs?

The discussion started with someone telling that the 60th anniversary and FOIS had funky bevels. I asked several times why he/she thought they were funky. That’s all. The rest is irrelevant.
