Just got the call from the Houston boutique that my 321 arrived, and is being sent to me on Saturday.

I was originally #3 on the list, so in theory 2 more came out of the Houston boutique before me - but, I did not yet ask whether those two before me took their orders.

Anyhow, some more data on roll-out, and an incoming.... *eggplant emoji*
It’s great to see one finally hit the Houston OB. I'm patiently waiting for my Snoopy 50 from them.

Congratulations, super cool to get the call before Christmas!!

Same.
Sapphire on this model looks somehow much better than on the sapphire standard moonwatch. But I understand that could be dealbreaker for one of you. I’m totally fine with the sapphire here.

No fan of sapphire on a Speedmaster.

Deal breaker!!

I'd see the watch in person B...........it's pretty amazing I gotta say. It's not your typical sapphire with the ring like on FOIS/Professional. Really really nicely done. Watch is amazing in every way for me.

Getting “the call” the on the 24th, it in transit the 25th, and at my door by 9 a.m. this morning the 26th, it’s about as close to a Christmas present as could be.

All it took was 356 days of having down a full priced deposit 😵‍💫

Initial impressions:

The good: to me, the all-around best looking modern Speedy that I’ve seen in the flesh; somehow, the sapphire does NOT give the typical halo almost whatsoever (which was my biggest pre-receipt worry); can’t wait to show the 321 in motion to my 14 month old son (for whom this was ostensibly purchased); the lume “color” is in no way a “faux-tina” or anything other than an appropriate design choice.

The bad: the sapphire case back causes this to sit up off the wrist in a way that is visually amplified by the otherwise petite nature of the 39.7mm/19mm watch; the “normal” box is a bummer of a presentation for this otherwise extraordinary piece, which experience feels something akin to the tangential disappointment of accidentally finding your unwrapped Christmas present weeks before Christmas - not fatal, but less than ideal, experientially.

Three questions come to my mind as it sits in hand:

Has anyone seen this watch yet on a nice vintage strap?

Any confirmed info as to which “normal” case back might fit, should a guy want the optional hardware around?

Does anyone know what the “WL Date” of 4/20 might mean (on the factory box in which it was shipped to me) - curious, here in December, what about it has to do with April? 👎

Wow, never realized this would be my first post. I've been reading this forum off and on for years.

FYI, I was #2 at the Houston OB. Received mine last week. The people at the Houston OB are awesome by the way. I don't like to post pictures to flex, but wanted to post this just to show the forums how it compares to vintage pieces. Here is a photo next to my '68 Speedmaster. It is the transitional version so it has the 861 movement. I think they nailed the hour indices, I know there has been some flak for the fauxtina, but doesn't seem that far off from my 1968 watch. If anything it looks like what it would look like if it were new back in the 60s.

Omega also did something with the sapphire crystal where you don't notice the milky ring you see in the current sapphire Speedy. It's weird but take a look at the photo.

My 68 watch has the applied logo, step dial, long hour indices, everything except the 321 movement. My DON bezel and original hesalite are safely stored away. My 68 case is a bit overpolished but other than that it's a rather clean example of a transitional Speedmaster. Bought it back from a local store (Hal Martin's) in Houston back in 2013, when they weren't in demand. Man.. back then they had 5 digit subs for $3-5k all day long.

I feel like I was the demographic Omega was looking for. I've always wanted the 321 Speedy and maybe add a Preik caseback to look at the movement. But now with all the demand, I wouldn't trust the vintage market.

I'm waiting for my call for the Snoopy 3. Hope it doesn't take as long. I paid in full for this 321 when they called on Jan 7th. I think I will be done with my speedy collection after that. So far loving this piece the movement is gorgeous to look at and the bracelet is butter! I know I can find an authentic Ed White for the same price but this one is mine from the beginning.

So that's a total of 3 steel 321 movements for Houston OB. I wonder if we got more because of our NASA affiliation. I know Houston got left out of the Shuttle displays back in 2012 when they went to New York, Florida and California.. at least we are getting our fair share of 321s. 😀

Wonderful!

I hadn’t noticed if the “first” from Houston had also/already posted from here?!

If so, then it’s nice to “meet” the two bastards (bastardettes?) in line before me that I’ve been cursing at for several months now 😁

First of all congrats to both of you and enjoy this beautiful watch!

Sapphire without the significant halo was one of the first thing I’ve noticed. And looks damn nice to me.

True is the watch does not sit on the wrist as I would expect but doesn’t bother me much.

Regarding the WL date, here is the picture of my box. Watch delivered in September in EU.

The 321 is my end goal Speedy. I hope to eventually join the 3 other 321’s in Houston.

Interesting you have both said about the watch not sitting as you expect. Do you think it’s the sapphire? I’ve always found the straight luggers to wear slightly taller - don’t know if that is just my perception or a fact.

either way, like the previous poster I hope to join the club one day.

That your “WL date” appears to predate the announcement date for the watch, it only increases the mystery!

Eventually some one will come along to both explain the “WL date” AND that it’s widely known by everyone but me... in 5, 4, 3, 2 ...

I wonder if @Archer has any insight into “WL date”? Perhaps it has an analogue in the parts world...

Don't think that "WL Date" has anything to do with the watch. Probably manufacture date of the box. It is the standard Speedmaster presentation box (9410.6314). Nothing special about it.

You are right about the straight lugs. They do sit a little taller as the lugs "stick out" a little bit.

this makes a ton of sense 😵‍💫

of course the watch itself came in the little plastic hard case, and they separately have a stock of these presentation cases to then place the watches in

And the ref is printed later on the outer paper box?! The ref shows the type of the watch carried inside... Or am I missing something?

Always possible that I’m the one missing something, but Omega’a reference number for the watch itself is 311.30.40.30.01.001 ... meanwhile, @s2000_driver suggests above that the presentation box’s reference (or part) number is the 9410.6314 printed on the outer cardboard.

For some reason it was escaping me that the boutiques actually receive the watch in the little ~4in x ~2in plastic case (along with booklets, etc.), then separately have on hand a stock of presentation boxes to which they transfer the watch and paperwork for sale. I’ve seen this done with watches I’ve bought in person at a boutique/AD (including as recently as two weeks ago) - but with this 321 receipt via mail was maybe was too discombobulated about finally receiving the watch to put 2-and-2 together 🤨

Hello,

For my first post, I would tell how I am very very happy about my 321.

On my wrist, the 321 is perfectly placed. It really depends on body types and yet I am used to wear thin watches and I was just worried about the thickness of the 321. But it's perfect!!!!
