Wow. When you see it in this detail I sat back and let the historical significance of what I was looking at sink in.

    Striking watch but.....

    9 o'clock sub dial? Wonky
    Sapphire crystal? Nope
    USD $ 10k?

I'm a movement freak and I absolutely love what they did with the venerable 861. Chronometer rated, free sprung, silicon hairspring Co-Ax, decoration...very cool.

The short pushers, 11 o'clock marker, step dial, super nice bracelet and two tone accents are very nice. I certainly think the caseback is a hit. Just for the wearer to see or show off at will! But damn, I could have dealt with the sapphire had it not been for that horrendous astronaut at 9...:whipped:

Well technically the historical significance is you are looking at the second person who stepped foot on the moon (albeit with a watch), not the first… ;)

The bracelet seems to be the same. The clasp is not. On the positive side, it is smaller and slimmer. On the negative side, it does not the micro-adjustment feature.

Well, I'm not enthusiast about this release. I appreciate the step dial, applied logo and drop second hand, however this 9 subdial is tacky and ugly IMHO, and I'm not a fan of the two tone dial. As a lot here I hope the bracelet will be available separately, it would look cool on a regular speedy (with the polished part brushed). The price point is also pretty high considering the watch.

I can't imagine the 6969 pieces being sold out in the blink of an eye. Considering the price and the polarizing design it would be surprising. The Speedmaster trilogy which was very well received is still available new in some AD and seems hard to move on second hand market, while production number was half this 50th Apollo anniversary edition.

So are you going into orbit sometime soon? :)

Aldrin’s backside coming down the ladder.... still scratching my head on that one but the rest of the watch is so cool. Pie plate dial... gold applied markers and logo.... DON.... so nicely done indeed.

Agree. This is a commemorative watch and in my opinion makes no difference whether or not it is flight certified. It would be a different story if the released a new standard issue speedmaster professional that was not.

This pic is helping me come around to liking the subdial. The detail is striking.

I like the overall look except for the astronaut subdial art and the relic'd strap...and the price!

I hope it won't be available separate. It was made for this limited edition and should remain that way.

I think it was a mistake to use a photograph as the basis for the 9 o'clock subdial. While Buzz (or at least his leg and butt...) is very detailed and prominent, the LEM would be downright unrecognizable without the context of the astronaut. A more stylized drawing would have been cleaner and less busy. The footprint is awesome, though. I also love the reference marks that remind me of the iconic photographs of the moon surface.
