Yet another thread on vintage Seamasters. There are plenty of threads I probably should have posted to instead of a new one but, WTH, I'm excited.😁

Background is that I own one Seamaster, a vintage chrono. I have wanted a time only but couldn't decide. The heritage 300 almost had me, as did a 300m white dial. But the vintage no dive bezel time only were attractive. When @Tubber told me he was looking for a fat lugged Seamaster, that's what narrowed my focus.

There are so many Seamasters, especially vintage. It's difficult to choose one. And of the ones that are for sale, there seem to be a lot of worn out or rebuilt watches. It's intimidating. Plus prices are all over the place. The worst is probably seeing beautiful examples owned by long time members of OF who have them stashed away. In theory there are better watches to be had but it seems impossible to find one.

So when I tripped over this one I decided it looked clean and had a 562 movement that would be nice to own. I wanted a bigger lug version and something near my birth year in the Eisenhower administration 🤦.

This is the photo from the auction site:

This is what arrived a couple hours ago:

Needless to say I am very pleased. I may keep it on thr flex bracelet too. It's a great fit on my 7.25 inch wrist. The sunburst dial is more common than some others like linen, etc., but it's very clean and classic. Suits me well.

It's a little strange, but this vintage 1962ish era watch does not look a bit dated. Omega would do well to sell the same reference brand new today.

So many little gems. I need more wrists. 😀

Looks like a nice honest watch.

Be aware that bracelets with spring loaded ends like this tend to chew the inside of the lugs.

Agreed. They'd expand their market and cool down the vintage market (maybe? What do I know?).

Nice watch!

As my young daughter used to say, "me not know that!"

Pushing on the ends, I can see what you mean.

Guess I'll be looking for a new bracelet. Thanks for the heads up. 👍

Lovely watch! Really nice (except the cyclop that I personally can't stand) ... But do tell the story with the pullover 😀

what about putting small Teflon washers on the springbars? Has that been tried?

Beautiful watch. I see the Omega etched logo on the acrylic- did they use cyclops on watch of this vintage or is this replacement Omega crystal?

If you like the look and feel of the stretchy, there are plenty of them out there that don't have the spring loaded ends.

They came with cyclops but rather than raised like a Rolex, the magnifier is under the crystal Glycine Airman also did this. There may be others but I don't know of more.

It does make the magnifier a bit less intrusive. 🤔

Your reference came up alot when i was comparing. If you or others know, I am curious about the difference between the 166.011 and the 14762 SC 61. I even saw the two references used simultaneously for the same watch.

(Can't wait for that Watchprint Seamaster book to come out.)

. @LesXL

She hates it. I have had to rescue it out of the bin a couple times.

The rest is in good shape, and it's warm. I live in a house with warm women so the A/C is on. Half the time I'm freezing. We have two electric cars and some solar panels, which barely offsets our carbon footprint from a freezing house.

(Too much info? 😟)

Mine came apparently from Japan arccording to seller. Btw on caseback inner there are some Chinese scribes so I don't know if it is related to that 'Japan provenance' or not...
Ref 166.011 is IMHO quite big in comparison with a few Seamaster I own with 35-36mm diameter, strong bezel.
It seems that ref is common in Japan market.

Perhaps that's the difference. The 14762SC 61 is 34mm.
